The regular school board meeting of Independent School District 748 was called to order at 7 p.m. by Krista Durrwachter, chair. Members present: Durrwachter; Michelle Meyer, vice chair; Pam Raden, clerk; Mary McCabe, director; Jason Nies, director; Pat Marushin, director; Hannah Yackley, student representative and Jeff Schwiebert, superintendent.
A motion was made by Raden and seconded by Nies to approve the agenda. All in favor. Motion carried.

Student Representative Report: Hannah Yackley, student
- Oak Ridge and Pine Meadow will celebrate Unity Day on Wednesday, Oct. 21.
- Oak Ridge Elementary will host a program, ‘Bully Buster’ featuring Ronald McDonald. Pine Meadow Elementary had the opportunity to participate in this program earlier in the month.
- Oak Ridge Elementary held a sock drive for Socketober and collected hundreds of pairs of socks to donate to local charities.
- Sartell Middle school will host a Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Activity Night on Friday, Oct. 21 and get a discount with a donation to the food shelf.
- On Nov. 3, Sartell Middle and High School students will participate in We Day, a celebration of youth making a difference in their local and global communities.
- Winter athletics and activities are ramping up.
- Sartell High School was able to donate more than $4,200 to the Randy Shaver Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society through donations collected during the “Sabres Tackling Cancer”-themed homecoming week.
- On Saturday, Oct. 25, students in National Honor Society will be trick or treating to collect donations for the local food shelf.
- On Saturday, Oct. 31, Sartell High School will have a Halloween Dance from 7-10 p.m. and get a discount with a donation to the food shelf.
Superintendent Report: Jeff Schwiebert, superintendent
- A meeting was held with a variety of individuals to learn more about a Drug Free Schools Grant and the opportunities that might be available for the Sartell-St. Stephen School District and community to collaborate and participate with the initiative.
School Board Committees:
Wellness Policy Review Committee
- The Wellness Policy Review Committee is comprised of teachers, parents, Food Service leadership, the District Nurse and community partnership representation including individuals from BLEND and CentraCare.
- The group is reviewing the policy to promote a healthier generation and will present an updated policy proposal to the board in the upcoming months.
Sartell Senior Connection
- The group discussed the Community School Planning Initiative.
- The Sartell Senior Connection Garage Sale was a great success.
- There was a very full agenda with a variety of activities and opportunities for our area seniors to continue to be involved and active within the community.
Community Outreach Committee
- On Wednesday, Oct. 7, this committee met with city and district representatives, along with the city and district architects to continue to discuss opportunities of collaboration between the city and the district.
- Each group shared timelines and implementation processes and guidelines.
- This was one of several meetings that has happened with the city and there is a continued effort to work together and collaborate as we both move forward in planning for our community.
Negotiations Committee
- There is a tentative agreement with the Sartell Education Association.
Report on Enrollment: Jeff Schwiebert, superintendent, reviewed the enrollment report.
Report on One District, One Book: Laura Arndt, instructional coach at Oak Ridge Elementary, presented information on the One District, One Book initiative to be put in place during the 2015-16 school year.
Ventures Humanex Report: Jeff Schwiebert, superintendent, presented a report on the Minnesota Student Survey.
