St. John’s University and the College of St. Benedict both ranked high as among the “50 Best Colleges in the Midwest” by Money Magazine in its 2002 annual assessments of institutions of higher learning.
SJU was ranked number 10 and CSB ranked number 13 in the magazine’s ratings of private and public colleges. The colleges ranked are located in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Illinois, Missouri and Indiana.
Money Magazine also ranked schools nationally among 671 colleges and universities. SJU ranked number 38 and CSB ranked number 50.
The only Minnesota college that ranked ahead of SJU/CSB was St. Olaf at number 7. The University of Minnesota (Twin Cities) ranked number 12; Gustavus Adolphus ranked number 17; and Carleton College ranked number 23.
The criteria on which rankings were based included quality of education, affordability and outcomes. Those criteria included graduation rates; the net price of a degree, student and parent borrowing and loan repayment rates; and the median earnings of graduates.
