Subhead – Plunge presented by Minnesota law enforcement to benefit Special Olympics Minnesota.
Whether it’s one toe at a time, eyes tightly closed with an uneasy step forward or a fearless cannonball, brave souls are already planning their grand entrance into the icy waters at the 2013 Polar Bear Plunge, presented by Minnesota law enforcement for the benefit of Special Olympics Minnesota. Registration is now open for the 2013 Plunge season. The St. Cloud Plunge will be held Saturday, Feb. 16 in St. Cloud.
Now in its 16th consecutive year, the Polar Bear Plunge is part of the year-round Law Enforcement Torch Run®, which supports more than 7,100 Special Olympics Minnesota athletes, as they train, compete and transform themselves, their communities and the world. About Polar Bear Plunge
The first Polar Bear Plunge took place at Como Lake in St. Paul. Since then, the Plunge has expanded to 16 locations across Minnesota, growing exponentially more successful each year. Polar Bear Plunge events are organized by Minnesota law enforcement as part of the Law Enforcement Torch Run®, the largest grassroots fundraiser and public awareness vehicle for Special Olympics in the world. With a mission to raise funds for and awareness of the Special Olympics movement worldwide, law enforcement officers and personnel from all 50 United States, 10 Canadian provinces and territories and more than 35 nations carry the “Flame of Hope” in honor of Special Olympics athletes in their areas and around the world. The Torch Run is an actual running event in which officers and athletes run the “Flame of Hope” to the Celebration Ceremonies of Special Olympics competitions. The Torch Run is also a diverse initiative encompassing a variety of fundraisers, including the Polar Bear Plunge.
