Due to recent rainfall and rising water, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office is extending the no-wake-zone ordinance of 300 feet from shore that has been in place for the past 30 days.
The Sheriff’s Office requested an extension of the restriction from the Minnesota DNR which was granted on Aug. 5, 2025.
This no-wake ordinance applies to the following lakes:
- Two Rivers Lake – Holding Township
- Rice Lake – Eden Lake Township
- North Brown’s Lake – Eden Lake Township
- Big Lake – Munson Township
- Entire Sauk River chain of lakes – Eden Lake, Munson and Wakefield townships
- Middle Spunk Lake – Avon
This ordinance is an extension of the already in-place and current no-wake ordinance. The extension will remain in effect until Sept. 30.
The Sheriff’s Office will continue to monitor lake levels and if deemed appropriate at the time will remove the no-wake rule; however, at this time lake levels are at all-time highs, and the ordinance is in effect and will be enforced.
As a general rule, if you create a wave behind your boat that causes a white cap you are going too fast and must slow to no-wake speeds.
SPECIAL NOTE: In addition to the above lakes continuing with the already established no-wake ordinance the Sheriff’s Office is adding Lake Koronis to the 300 feet from shore no-wake rule. This will remain in effect for 30 days on Lake Koronis.
