A 7-year-old boy has died following a medical emergency early last week at Westwood Elementary School in St. Cloud.
Authorities responded on Sept. 16 to a distress call from the school saying the boy had stopped breathing.
Medical personnel performed CPR and the boy was transported to St. Cloud Hospital then transferred to Hennepin County Medical Center where he later died.
According to the St. Cloud Police report, foul play is not suspected but the cause of death has not yet been determined.
The case remains under investigation.
The St. Cloud School District issued a statement Sept. 22, saying the following:
We are deeply saddened to report that a member of our Westwood Elementary student community died after experiencing a medical emergency at school last week.
Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we are not sharing additional information at this time.
Following the incident, the district conducted a full review of our response and operations and welcomed and cooperated with law enforcement officials as they conducted an independent review. We have also reached out to the family and remain committed to transparency.
Counseling and support teams are on-site and available for any student or staff member. Students are encouraged to visit the counseling office at their school at any time.
No further information can be shared at this time due to state and federal privacy laws.”
