City of St. Stephen to collect household hazardous waste

The City of St. Stephen will collect all household hazardous wastes from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 6 at the St. Stephen City Hall, 2 Sixth Ave. SE. Sponsored by the Stearns County Household Hazardous Waste Facility, this event is free. Check the county website for the list of accepted and not accepted items.

Rise Above Seizures walk on Aug. 11

The Epilepsy Foundation of Minnesota hosts its annual Rise Above Seizures Walk on Thursday, Aug. 11 in St. Cloud to celebrate people with seizures, and to raise awareness and funds to support services for the 150,000 people the foundation serves annually. More than 3,500 walkers in St. Cloud, Duluth, Rochester, Fargo/Moorhead and the Twin Cities metro will come together to help people with epilepsy realize their full potential and stop seizures.

CSAH 1 reconstruction and roundabout in Sartell 

Stearns County motorists and the City of Sartell residents and businesses are advised that CSAH 1 will be closed between LeSauk Drive and 770 feet north of Heritage Drive which started Aug. 3, 2016 for a period of approximately two months for construction of a new roundabout. Heritage Drive will remain closed at CSAH 1.

Detours will be posted. Local residents will be able to access River Oaks Lane and homes along CSAH 1. All other motorists are advised to use the detour or to seek alternate routes. Additional information and maps can be viewed online at http://www.co.stearns.mn.us/PropertyRoads/RoadConstruction/CSAH1HeritageDr. Dates and timeframes are weather dependent. The Contractor for this project is Landwehr Construction Co.

Alert from Waite Park Police regarding gas thefts

Waite Park Police Department has received three reports of gas being stolen from vehicles or gas cans taken from boats. During one of the thefts wires were also cut on a trailer parked in the yard. These thefts have occurred on the north side of Waite Park near 1st Ave N and 2nd St N.

Please report any suspicious activity in your area. Call 911 or the Waite Park Police non emergency number at 320-251-3281. Remember to call while the activity is happening and get the best description possible to provide to the officer.

VA medical center seeks patient volunteers

St. Cloud Veterans Affairs Medical Center is looking for volunteers to provide companionship, conversation and help with activities to assigned patients who need visitors. They also need assistance with crafts, playing cards and games, special events, Friday night bingo callers, escorts and assistants.
