Market Monday now expands to Thursdays

Sartell Market Monday is now expanding to include Thursday. The same great products available on Monday are now being brought to you two times per week. Monday and Thursday from 3-6:30 p.m. Both markets are located on Seventh Street N. in the Hardware Hank parking lot. You will find meat, eggs, vegetables, baked goods and treats available on both days.

Pinecone Road closure on Saturday, May 27

Pinecone Road from Seventh Street to 40th Street will be completely closed to traffic from 8:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 27 for the Sartell Apple Duathlon. Avoid travel or be prepared to stop on Seventh Street N. and on 2-½ Street between Pinecone and Second Avenue because of cyclists and runners. The Apple Duathlon is a local, nonprofit race whose proceeds are returned to the community through donations to local service agencies and for college scholarships for local students. Come out and cheer on the racers!

Volunteers needed for Apple Duathlon

Support the local race and your community by volunteering to help with the Sartell Apple Duathlon kids’ race on Friday evening, May 26, and with the adult race on Saturday morning, May 27. We need people to staff registration and manage packet pickup, staff food tents and water stations, supervise parking, direct racers and more. Organizations who provide at least eight volunteers may earn $100 for your organization. All volunteers receive a 2017 Apple Duathlon T-shirt. Bring a friend. Contact volunteer@appleduathlon.com to sign up.

Catholic Charities seeks students for summer jobs

Know a high school senior looking for a job? Work for Catholic Charities this summer and into the fall. Do you know a student who will be attending St. Cloud State University, College of St. Benedict, St. John’s University or St. Cloud Community and Technical College this fall? Are they looking for a summer job? Catholic Charities is looking for employees in our Services to Persons with Developmental Disabilities Programs, and students make great candidates. Students earn a competitive wage and valuable experience while working with adults living in one of our group homes, or who live independently.

Stamp Out Hunger set this Saturday

Help Stamp Out Hunger by donating food to the letter carriers’ national food drive scheduled Saturday, May 13. Put your food out by your mailbox by 9 a.m. and the food will be collected and delivered to your local food shelf, Catholic Charities Emergency Services or the Salvation Army.

United Way Volunteer Opportunities

Senior dining

Catholic Charities senior dining provides flexible volunteer opportunities to assist with meal operations and delivery of Meals on Wheels and to serve on planning committees. Generally, volunteers are aged 18 and older and must have a valid driver’s license to deliver Meals on Wheels. Catholic Charities provides a nutritious meal to seniors, promotes wellness by providing seniors with the opportunity to interact with others; and connects seniors with services that assist them in living independently in their homes. Catholic Charities MOW delivers meals five to seven days a week to persons who are home-bound or in need of rehabilitation time from surgery, injury or illness. Contact Becky or Amy, Catholic Charities senior dining, at 320-229-4584.

Camp Adventure

Volunteer at summer camp. True Friends has a 50+-year history of providing high-quality camping programs to children and adults of all abilities. Camp Adventure is a camp for youth with ADD/ADHD/FASD/EBD and high functioning autism to have fun, meet new friends, and grow in their understanding of self and others. Camp is held July 23-28 at Camp Courage in Maple Lake, Minn. Each morning, campers will take part in team-building workshops focusing on self-confidence, positive interactions and independence. In the afternoon, they’ll put learned skills into practice through various activities. Your job is pretty simple as a volunteer – to have fun! Volunteering at camp is a great way for you to give back to the community while gaining valuable experience working with the population in a recreational environment. Your service brings our mission to life every day for the amazing individuals who come to camp. Volunteers, ages 18 and older, work with staff supporting campers in various camp activities; volunteers do not provide direct care to campers. Volunteers should have previous experience working with/interacting with kids who have ADD/ADHD, EBD, FASD, ASD. Meals and housing are provided at no cost separate from camper/counselor cabins. Students can earn 70 service learning hours for practicum and field-experience requirements. This is a residential volunteer opportunity – volunteers stay on-site for the week. Contact True Friends Volunteer Services at volunteerservices@truefriends.org or 952-697-2286.

Produce sampler

Catholic Charities Emergency Services could use volunteers to help raise awareness of fresh fruits and veggies available at the food shelf by offering taste testing to allow clients to sample unfamiliar produce before they select their items to take home. Hours: Monday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. (can alternate Mondays with other volunteers). Produce sampler will wash, cut and prepare fresh produce samples; greet clients and encourage tasting of produce samples while explaining how to use, prepare and safely preserve these products for later use; hand out tips for use and/or recipes of product sampled; conduct a quick survey to assess knowledge of product and if product was added to shopping cart; and clean and store equipment. Contact Kris Roberts, Catholic Charities Emergency Services volunteer coordinator, at 320-229-4590 or kroberts@ccstcloud.org.

Share your craft skills with seniors

Residents at the Country Manor Campus Care Center have requested to make tie quilts out of fleece. We are looking for a volunteer to come in one time per week for approximately one hour to tie quilt with a small group of residents. This is a flexible volunteer commitment and is a great way to build friendships and assist the residents in completing projects of their choice. All materials are provided for the tie quilts; now we just need your extra love and smiling face to make this a success. Contact Caitlin Tierney, Country Manor volunteer coordinator, at 320-253-1920.

For more information, contact Mary Krippner, United Way volunteer engagement coordinator, at 320-223-7991 or mkrippner@unitedwayhelps.org.
