In a hard-fought match Sept. 11 against St. Cloud Tech Tigers, the Sartell girls’ soccer team stymied the Tech offense and shut out the Tigers 2-0.
Sartell controlled the play early in the game keeping the Tigers off balance with some strong offensive sallies and controlling the Tech offense for a good share of the first period. Tech made a foray and countered before the end of the first half, but Jenna Eibes capitalized on a mistouched ball and managed to drill the ball into the back of the net with 33 minutes elapsed in the period.
After a 15-minute breather, Tech came out strong looking to get a little payback. But a strong Sabre defense fought back and kept Tech from capitalizing on a number of charges to the net. Strong defensive performances were turned in by Ashley Kessler, Emma Larson, Brenna Chisholm, and Lizzy Minnnerath according to Coach Roy Snyder. The game seesawed back and forth until late in the second period.
With minutes to go, Molly Voigt picked up a brilliant pass from Brooke Walters and charged down the field going one-on-one with a Tiger defender. Coming on hard, Voigt gave a little fake and pounded the ball into the back of the net to put the final nail in the Tiger game plan.
Reyna Hager made four saves to earn the 2-0 shutout against the Tigers.

Sartell senior Megan Sieben fights off a Sauk Rapids Storm player for control of the ball at mid-field during the Sept 12 match. Sartell went on to win the match 2-0. That is the second shut-out in a row.
