A backfiring muffler on a vehicle caused some nervous Sartell residents to call the police the night of Oct. 3 with reports of rapid gunshots being fired.
The “shots” were heard on Heritage Drive at about 9 p.m. near the area of PineCone Marketplace, where the Coborn’s Super Store is located.
Police investigated and determined the sounds came from a car whose muffler had been modified to make those backfiring sounds. The police later located the vehicle and its driver, and the report on the incident will be forwarded for possible charges, according to a posting on the Sartell Police Department’s Facebook.
