May 23

6:27 a.m. Traffic stop. 600 Black Riverside Avenue S. While southbound on Riverside Avenue an officer observed a vehicle that appeared to be traveling over the posted speed limit. The officer activated his front-facing radar and received a reading higher than the posted speed. The officer conducted a stop on the driver for the violation. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer learned the registration on the vehicle was expired as of January 2018. The officer returned to his squad and through further investigation learned the woman had been stopped for expired registration before. He released the driver after issuing her a citation for expired registration.

May 24

11:35 p.m. Shoplifter. 21 CR 120. Officers were dispatched to Walmart for a report of a woman who had stolen cosmetic items. Officers were advised she had left the area in a vehicle. Officers arrived and observed the suspect vehicle. An officer stoped the vehicle as it entered Jimmy John’s parking lot. The officer made contact with the female driver, who matched the description of the suspect. The woman admitted to being in Walmart but stated she didn’t steal anything. The officer observed a leopard print bag on the floor board of the vehicle. The officer was given consent to search the bag and located cosmetic items matching those listed in the complaint. The woman admitted the items were stolen and that it was a bad decision. The woman was released after being trespassed from Walmart and cited for misdemeanor theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.

May 25

8:25 a.m. Medical. An officer was dispatched for a report of a 72-year-old man who had fallen. The officer arrived and found the man on the floor. The officer could hear a rattle coming from his chest and observed him breathing hard. The officer started the man on oxygen and monitored him until Gold Cross Ambulance arrived. The officer then assisted with loading the patient for transport to St. Cloud Hospital.

 May 26

3:14 p.m. Domestic. 17 Street S. Officers were dispatched for a domestic in progress. Officers were told a woman had assaulted a man inside the residence and was last seen outside the residence. An officer arrived and found the woman outside. The officer observed the woman was extremely intoxicated. The officer met with the victim and a witness, both of whom stated the woman hit and kicked the victim multiple times. The officer arrested the woman. She was transported to Stearns County Jail to be booked on a charge of misdemeanor domestic assault.

May 27

2:59 p.m. Suicidal. Officers were dispatched for a report of a girl who was having thoughts of suicide. Officers learned the girl had locked herself in the bathroom with a small kitchen knife. Officers were able to make entry and observed the girl had the knife in her right hand. Officers asked her to drop the knife and she did. An officer then spoke with the child while a second officer met with the mother. Through both interviews officers decided it was best to have the child evaluated at St. Cloud Hospital. She was transported without incident.

May 28

10:10 a.m. Parking violation. 815 10th Avenue N. While on scene for an unrelated call, an officer observed a vehicle parked in the fire lane right near the front door. The vehicle was parked for at least 20 minutes while the officer was on scene and no one was around to move it. The officer issued a citation to the registered owner and placed it on the vehicle.

May 29

11:58 a.m. Traffic stop. Riverside Avenue N. An officer observed a vehicle traveling on Riverside Avenue that was not displaying a front plate. The officer initiated a stop on the vehicle for the violation. Upon speaking with the driver, the officer observed the plate on the dash, behind the windshield. When the officer asked for proof of insurance on the vehicle the driver provided a card showing the policy expired in 2017. The officer issued the driver a citation charging him with the equipment violation and no proof of insurance.

May 30

7:38 p.m. No-contact-order violation. Fifth Avenue E. Officers were dispatched for a report of a domestic abuse no-contact order that had been violated. The male complainant reported the woman he had the order against entered his home and locked herself in. Officers located the woman and arrested her. The order was verified through Benton County. Because this was the third time the woman had violated the order she was transported to Benton County Jail.

May 31

6:12 p.m. Suspicious person. 10th Avenue. N. Officers were dispatched for a report of suspicious man. Officers arrived  and located the man and a woman. The man provided officers with a false name. After both parties were correctly identified officers learned they both had outstanding warrants for their arrests. Officers placed both under arrest and conducted a search incident to arrest. During the search, officers located drug paraphernalia and 0.4 grams of methamphetamine. Officers transported both the man and woman to Stearns County Jail.

June 1

1:25 a.m. DWI. Hwy. 15 and CR 120. While monitoring traffic on Hwy. 15, an officer observed a southbound vehicle that appeared to be driving on a flat tire. The officer stopped the vehicle as it appeared to be throwing sparks from the driver’s front. The officer made contact with the juvenile driver who appeared to be under the influence. The officer conducted field sobriety testing and observed several more cues of impairment. After the tests were completed the officer arrested the juvenile.

June 2

9:05 a.m. Crash. 2 ½ Street N. and 19 Avenue N.  An officer was dispatched to a motor-vehicle crash involving no injuries. The officer arrived on scene and observed both vehicles pulled over in the northbound side of 19 Avenue N. The officer spoke with both drivers who denied injuries. The driver of vehicle one was northbound on 19th Avenue N. and had the right-of-way. Vehicle two was stopped on 2 ½ Street at the intersection. Driver of vehicle two stated she didn’t see vehicle one and pulled out onto 19th Avenue. The vehicles made contact causing minor damage.

June 3

4:01 p.m. DWI. Pinecone Road N. 2 ½ Street N. Officers were dispatched for a report of a crash involving no injuries. Officers were informed one of the drivers may be intoxicated. One officer arrived on scene and spoke with the driver of vehicle one. He stated he was stopped at the signal light on 2 ½ Street when he was rear-ended by a female driver. He stated when the woman exited her car she appeared off balance and intoxicated. A second officer arrived on scene and met with the woman. The officer immediately could smell an odor of alcohol and saw signs of impairment. The officer ran the woman through field sobriety testing and she was unable to pass. The preliminary breath test indicated the woman was three times over the legal limit. She was placed under arrest and could be charged with third-degree DWI and open container.

June 4

6:45 a.m. Medical. An officer was dispatched for a report of a man who was unable to breathe. The officer found the man inside the entryway of the residence. The officer had the man sit down and started him on oxygen. The man stated he was in no pain and appeared intoxicated. Gold Cross Ambulance arrived, took over patient care and transported him to St. Cloud Hospital. 

June 5

5:01 a.m. Traffic stop. Pinecone Road N. and  35th Street N. While traveling south on Pinecone Road N. in approximately the 2400 block, an officer observed a vehicle traveling north at a high rate of speed. The officer activated his radar and received a reading of 59 mph in a posted 40-mph zone. The officer stopped the vehicle for the violation and met with the driver. The driver provided valid licensing and proof of insurance. He stated he was late for work and was cooperative. The officer released the driver after issuing him a citation for speed.
