‘Beauty and the Beast’ to show June 15

Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” live-action movie is the June 15 selection for Movies Under the Stars, hosted by St. Cloud Park & Recreation and sponsored by Capital One. The free event begins at dusk at Field C-3 in Whitney Memorial Park. Concessions are available. Rain site is Whitney Rec Center. Star Wars: the Last Jedi shows July 20. Fare for All set June 18

Fare for All’s next distribution will be from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, June 18 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 610 CR 2, St. Joseph. Fare for All is a budget-stretching program that allows people to save up to 40 percent off fresh fruits, vegetables and frozen meats. Distribution is once a month. This event is open to everyone who wants to stretch their grocery dollar. Cash, credit, debit cards and EBT cards are accepted. Volunteer to take care of flower beds

St. Scholastica Convent is looking for several volunteers to help with weeding and watering the flower beds around the dining room. This is an opportunity to spend time outdoors with flowers and beautifying the convent. Contact Marina Schlangen, Saint Scholastica volunteer coordinator, at 320-251-2225 or mschlangen@csbsju.edu.


37 reading, math tutors needed

The St. Cloud area needs 37 literacy and math tutors for the 2018-2019 school year according to Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps. Both full- and part-time tutors are being recruited to begin a year of paid service this fall. Kennedy Community School is one of the schools that have been awarded a tutor position.

Tutors commit to 11 months of service, during which they earn a biweekly living allowance of $597 (full-time) and an education award of up to $5,920 to help pay for further education. Full-time tutors also receive health insurance.

Help your neighbors

Catholic Charities’ Emergency Services program has several weekly opportunities for volunteers. Check-out person 4-6 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. to noon Friday; clothing support person 8:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday and 12:45-4 p.m. Thursday; donation door assistant 8:15 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 12:30-4:15 p.m. Thursday;  and food shelf guide 3:45-7 p.m. Wednesday.  These opportunities are at 157 Roosevelt Road, Suite 100, St. Cloud, and is on a bus line. Provide support to families

Lutheran Social Service/St. Cloud Area Crisis Nursery is in need of volunteers to staff the crisis line from home (cell phone) between 5 p.m. and  8 a.m. Volunteers will receive personal training on working the crisis line and working with families in crisis. Volunteer schedule is flexible. Crisis Nursery is 24/7 care for children and support for families and a nonprofit organization that has served Stearns and Benton counties for more than 19 years. Help with activities

The Independence Center Inc. needs volunteers to complete activities with consumers who have special needs. These volunteers must enjoy having fun and completing leisure activities on a one-on-one basis or with a small group. Activities consumers enjoy completing include reading stories, baking activities, arts and crafts, painting nails, playing cards and accompanying our staff on community outings. United Way Community Drive – Back to the Basics

United Way is encouraging groups (employers, service clubs, youth groups, etc) to host a Back to the Basics Drive to support children and youth experiencing homelessness. Suggested items include: travel size body wash, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, combs, brushes, deodorant, q-tips, hand sanitizer, band aids, lip balm, wet wipes, bug repellant, hand warmers, wash cloths, toothpaste, tooth brushes, ointment, small packs facial tissues, disposable razors, comb/brush, new underwear and socks. Deliver items to United Way of Central Minnesota, 921 First St., N., St. Cloud, before 11 a.m. on June 21. Companion volunteers

Do you enjoy visiting with other people? Volunteers are needed to provide companionship to hospice patients in central Minnesota. St. Croix Hospice companion volunteers visit patients and families and offer emotional support as a part of their hospice team. Visiting may include talking with patients and families, reading to patients or participating in activities with them. Visiting times are flexible and are individualized to our patients and volunteers’ schedules. Training is provided as well as ongoing support. Help with light housekeeping

Assumption Community Faith In Action serves communities by making connections between those who need some assistance and those who are able to provide the services. Volunteers assist individuals 60 and older with a wide variety of activities from transportation to homemaking. A woman in south St. Cloud suffering from debilitating chronic pain is seeking help with light housekeeping. Tasks would include changing linens, vacuuming and cleaning kitchen and bathroom. Contact Cherise, Rural Stearns Faith in Action, at 320-290-3428.
