Muskies wallop Albertville 11-0

The June 13 midweek game saw the Sartell Muskies whup the tar out of the ball and the Albertville Villains in Albertville as the Muskies scattered 18 hits and collected 11 runs.

The Muskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead but added six runs in the second and four in the third and fourth innings to give them an 11-0 lead. From there on they coasted home to the 11-0 shutout.

Austin Gohl spent six solid innings on the hill giving out three hits and racking up seven strikeouts. His shutout marks the third in a row for the Muskies.

Jake Sweeter continued to swing the sweet stick as he ripped a single in the first to score the first run and then added a two-run single in the second that scored two runs. Sweeter finished the game going 4 for 5. Jace Otto and Ethan Carlson added three hits each.

Muskies pound Lamberton Long Sox 14-1

In the first game of the June 15-17 Elrosa Elite Eight tournament, the Muskies went up against the Long Sox, a team they had met before in last year’s state tournament. The Muskies expected a tough game against Lamberton, but the baseball gods smiled on the Muskies as they pounded Lamberton for 14 runs.

“It was one of those things where their pitcher was a little wild,” said Manager Randy Beckstrom. “So we took advantage of walks and got some timely hitting. We kind of kept our hitting shoes on from Wednesday night.”

But it wasn’t just the hitting and the wild pitching on the other side, Beckstrom said. Muskie right-hander Adam Wenker gave a strong performance in allowing only one run.

Muskies lose a 1-0 washout to Elrosa

Saturday evening the Muskies ran in to a determined Elrosa Saints team and lost 1-0.

“It was a tough game, and it was rain shortened, so it was only a five-inning game,” Beckstrom said. “We called the game because the field got an inch-and-a-half of rain. We just ran out of time.”

Muskies hook third place in Elrosa tournament

It was one of those come-from-behind wins for the Muskies as they managed to snag third place in the Elrosa Elite 8 tournament by beating the Bemidji Blue Ox 5-2. And it was sweet revenge as well.

“We were down 2-0 through a good share of the game,” Beckstrom said. “Then we picked up a run and then Ethan Carlson had a big two-run single in the sixth inning to make it 4-2. We added another in the seventh inning.”

David Deminsky held the hill for the Muskies and picked up the 5-2 win over the Blue Ox. Deminsky struck out 10 batters in a masterful performance.

Carlson fired up the offense for the Muskies going 3 for 4 and collecting two RBI. Brian Schellinger chipped in with his own 3 for 4 performance.

“It was the second time in two weeks we’ve had to face them in a tournament,” Beckstrom said. “We’ve got a pretty good rivalry with these guys. They were the ones that knocked us out of the state tournament last year.”
