Sheriffs’ forum to be held Aug. 6

On Monday, Aug. 6, the League of Women Voters, St. Cloud Area, will co-sponsor with the Whitney Senior Center, a forum featuring Stearns County Sheriff candidates Dave Bentrud, Bob Dickhaus and Steve Soyka. The event will be from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Whitney Senior Center, 1527 Northway Drive, St. Cloud. Candidates Bentrud, Dickhaus and Soyka will be on the Aug. 14 primary election ballot, along with Dwight Pfannenstein, who is no longer running for the seat. Candidate forums are open to the public, and audience members are invited to submit written questions. The candidates receive equal time to respond.


‘Jumanji’ to show Aug. 10

“Jumangi” is the Aug. 10 selection for Movies Under the Stars, hosted by St. Cloud Park & Recreation. The free event begins at dusk at Field C-3 in Whitney Memorial Park. Concessions are available. Share your craft talent

Volunteers are needed to help residents at the Country Manor Campus Care Center make crafts. Volunteers commit to one day a week for about an hour to assist the residents in completing projects of their choice.  Contact Casaundra Heinen, Country Manor Campus Care, at 320-253-1920 or cheinen@countrymanorcampus.org.


Make a difference in a child’s life

Lutheran Social Service/St. Cloud Area Crisis Nursery is in need of volunteers to staff their crisis line from home between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. Volunteers receive training on working the crisis line and working with families in crisis. Home delivered meal program

Volunteers are needed to help take carts filled with pre-packaged meals for delivery to clients from the new kitchen area on Lower Level of the CentraCare Health Plaza up to Prairie East entrance for pickup by the home-delivered-meals driver volunteers. Volunteers are needed from 9:30 -11:30 a.m. Monday-Thursday. Contact Volunteer Services at 320-255-5638 or volunteer@centracare.com.


Volunteer with Place of Hope

Place of Hope is looking for volunteers for a variety of positions. Volunteers are needed on a regular basis for their on-going homeless hospitality outreach, nightly community meal, residential living hope program and thrift store. Contact Place of Hope at hope@placeofhopeministries.org.


Campus mentoring initiative

Big Brothers Big Sisters are partnering with St. Cloud State University, Spanier Bus Service and St. Cloud school district. Eighth-grade Advancement Via Individual Determination students will be bused to St. Cloud State where they will be matched with a business professional or St. Cloud State employee. They will meet twice a month on campus from noon-1 p.m.. The purpose of this initiative is to introduce the students to college and also provide professional adult mentors to the students. Food shelf help

The food shelf at Catholic Charities Emergency Services is looking for a volunteer to help with client check-out during the following shifts: noon-3 p.m. on Mondays and 3-7 p.m. on Wednesdays. Contact Michelle C. at 320-229-4568.


Volunteer musicians needed

Heartland Home Health Care and Hospice is looking for musicians to share their talent with patients. Heartland provides hospice services in a 60-mile radius of  Brainerd and St. Cloud. Furniture is needed

You can help by donating gently used items to a low-income family in need. Items accepted include couches, lamps, recliners, rockers, kitchen tables and chairs, end tables, coffee tables, night stands, dressers and complete bed sets (no kings). Furniture with rips, stains, mold or rust cannot be accepted. Tax receipt and pick-up service is available. Contact the Community Furniture Program at 320-656-9004.


Transport volunteers needed

CentraCare Health is looking for STEP Force (Speedy Transport & Escort Pool) volunteers. Volunteers provide a walking escort or wheelchair transport for patients and guests throughout the facility. Volunteers work as a team to complete errands and deliver flowers, mail and packages to patients at St. Cloud Hospital. Contact CentraCare Health Volunteer Services at 320-255-5638 or volunteer@centracare.com.
