St. Stephen to host HHW event Aug. 25
A Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event will be held from 8- 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Stearns County will provide local pick up at the St. Stephen City Hall/Fire Department at 2 Sixth Ave SE. Visit the city’s website for a list of accepted items (www.cityofststephen.com). Note:  The next collection will be in 2020 due to the increased use of the HHW Facility. 

Help celebrate Wruck’s retirement

Members of the community are invited to celebrate and honor the achievements and leadership of Steve Wruck at a retirement open house on Wednesday, Aug. 15. The open house will be from 4–6:30 p.m. at Great River Bowl/Partner’s Pub.

Wruck served as the Director of Business Services for the Sartell-St. Stephen school district since February 2000 and has a combined 35 years of service in school finance.


Travel basketball opens registration

Registration for the 2018-19 Sartell Area Youth Basketball Association Travel Basketball grades 3-8 is now open. Register online at saybabball.org. Register prior to Saturday, Aug. 11, to receive early bird discount. Please see the website for more information on the SAYBA program.


Fare for All set Aug. 13

Fare for All’s next distribution will be from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 13, at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 610 CR 2, St. Joseph. Fare for All is a budget-stretching program that allows people to save up to 40 percent off fresh fruits, vegetables and frozen meats. Distribution is once a month. This event is open to everyone who wants to stretch their grocery dollar. Cash, credit, debit cards and EBT cards are accepted. Donate gently used furniture for families

Help low-income families in need by donating gently used furniture. Items accepted include couches, lamps, recliners, rockers, kitchen tables and chairs, end table, coffee tables, night stands, dressers and complete bed sets (no kings). Furniture with rips, stains, mold or rust cannot be accepted. Tax receipt and pick up service is available. Contact the Community Furniture Program at 320-656-9004


Senior companions needed

Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota provides trusted companionship through their Neighbor to Neighbor and Senior Corps programs. Both programs assist older adults to live in their homes longer, safer and healthier by providing weekly friendly visits.  Senior Companions are at least 55 years old and volunteer 15 hours per week.  Neighbor to Neighbor Companions are at least 18 years old and volunteer two or more hours per week serving one or more older adults.  Volunteers are eligible for a monthly or hourly stipend and mileage reimbursements. Contact Janel Heinen, Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota at 320-241-5173 or janel.heinen@lssmn.org .
