REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING

SARTELL-ST. STEPHEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS

INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO 748

SARTELL HIGH SCHOOL MEDIA CENTER

The regular school board meeting of Independent School District 748 was called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair Jason Nies. Members present: Nies; Pamela Raden, clerk; Amanda Byrd, treasurer; Lesa Kramer, director; Patrick Marushin, director; and Jeff Schwiebert, superintendent. Members absent: Jeremy Snoberger, vice chair.

A motion was made by Raden and seconded by Kramer to APPROVE THE AGENDA AS PRESENTED. All in favor. Motion carried.                                                                

A motion was made by Marushin and seconded by Byrd to APPROVE CONSENT ITEMS A-E AS PRESENTED BELOW. All in favor. Motion carried.

Student Representative Report: Eli Lawson and Yash Hindka, student representatives

  • Lawson and Hindka reported on happenings around the district. Oak Ridge and Pine Meadow elementary schools are preparing for fourth-grade graduation and the PTO family picnic will be this Thursday. Sartell Middle school hosted the Math Masters competition on April 27 and students are performing their band and choir concerts. There was a celebration for MaryLou Westra’s 90th birthday on May 9 by students and staff. The Sartell High School Outdoor Dance was held inside due to the weather, with a special thanks to Courtney Snoberger for putting the senior slideshow together. Most section tournaments are in progress with tennis players advancing to day two.

Construction Manager Report on Building Process:

  • Construction Manager Lee Gruen reported cleaners are arriving to begin and will be starting in the music wing. The gymnasium floor is finished with final walk-through scheduled. The pool is completely full of water and at the correct warmth for temperature. The fitness and CNA rooms are having their flooring finished as level two rooms have all flooring completed. Painting is ongoing in the entire level one area, two more loads of kitchen equipment have arrived and sidewalks will start being poured.

Superintendent Report: Jeff Schwiebert, superintendent

  • Schwiebert reported a new education bill from this year’s legislative session should be out in the next 24 hours, with some changes to the equalization aids. The district is invited to attend the dedication of St. Cloud Orthopedics Field on June 11. The district received the Champion of Youth award from the Boys and Girls Club this year. The City of Sartell has approached the district and Technology Director Kyle Breitkreutz on sharing some of his time during the next three months to help with the city’s technology. The city would pay the cost for his time.

MN ESSA – Graduation Rates Report:

  • District Assessment Coordinator Marie Pangerl reported on Sartell-St. Stephen School District 2018 Graduation Rates as related to Minnesota’s Every Student Succeeds Act.

District Language Instruction Educational Program (LIEP) Plan of Service Report:

  • Assistant Superintendent of Learning Services Kay Nelson and Sartell Middle School Assistant Principal Zach Dingmann reported on revisions made to the District Language Instruction Educational Program Plan of Service to meet Minnesota state requirements.

School Board Committee Report:

  • Treasurer Byrd reported on the Curriculum, Instruction and Advisory committee meeting she attended last month.
  • Director Marushin reported on the Facility Steering committee he attended.

Enrollment Report:

  • Superintendent Schwiebert reported on the current enrollment numbers for each school.

A motion was made by Raden and seconded by Byrd to APPROVE OAK RIDGE ELEMENTARY BUILDING BE DESIGNATED AS A PRE-K THROUGH K EARLY LEARNING CENTER AND PINE MEADOW ELEMENTARY BUILDING BE DESIGNATED AS A GRADES 1-2 SCHOOL. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Marushin and seconded by Kramer to APPROVE THE 2019-2020 DISTRICT 748 LITERACY PLAN READING WELL BY THIRD GRADE. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Kramer and seconded by Marushin to APPROVE THE RESOLUTIONS TO NON-RENEW THE PROBATIONARY CONTRACTS AS PRESENTED FOR NATHAN BERTHELSEN, TILLER MARTIN, SEAN MINDER, NICK OSOWSKI, JACOB SMITH, RACHEL WESTRUP and MARYBETH WOODRUFF. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Raden and seconded by Byrd to APPROVE REVISIONS TO POLICIES 601, 602, 603, 604 AND 607. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Marushin and seconded by Kramer to APPROVE FEB. 18, 2019 AND APRIL 22, 2019 AS REGULAR SCHOOL DAYS FOR THE LOSS OF THE INSTRUCTIONAL DAYS OF JAN. 29, 30, 31; FEB. 8, 20; MARCH 11. ALSO RECOMMEND JUNE 1 WILL BE A HALF-DAY WORKSHOP DAY OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. JUNE 2 WILL BE A BUILDING STAFF DEVELOPMENT DAY AT ALL BUILDINGS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE HIGH SCHOOL, WHICH WILL USE IT AS A MOVING DAY. JUNE 3 WILL BE A HALF DAY OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND THERE WILL BE SIX HOURS OF FLEXIBLE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR CERTIFIED STAFF. All in favor. Motion carried.
