On Aug. 26, lifelong St. Joseph resident Taylor Notsch showcased her graphic design pieces and clay jewelry artwork at Millstream Night Market Mondays. Not only has Notsch lived her whole life in St. Joseph, she also attended the College of St. Benedict where she majored in communication.

Last year when the lockdown was still in effect, Notsch couldn’t find work because of COVID-19. She decided to use that time to give attention to her art.

“I decided to use my artistic talents to make some money and do something I enjoy,” Notsch said.

Notsch creates graphic design pieces stemmed from her time at Bad Habit Brewing. She had an opportunity to intern with Bad Habit which is where she learned a lot of her graphic design skills. During the pandemic when she couldn’t find a job, she started to put those skills to use on her own.

She calls her earrings Joetown Earrings.

“I wanted to brand it locally and to support our local businesses,” Notsch said.

“I started doing these markets this summer and it’s been a really awesome way to engage in the community and get my art out there,”

It’s not always easy to find any good that came out of the pandemic, but in Notsch’s case it gave her the opportunity to not only create and focus on her passion, but also start her own business. Starting and running a business can bring stress of course but Notsch thanks her craft for finding balance.

“It’s a great stress release,” Notsch said about creating her art.
