April 11
12:29 p.m. Suspicious vehicle. Riverside Avenue N. A caller requested an officer check on a man parked at a park, who was getting in and out of his vehicle every time someone went by. The caller stated the man had clothing hanging out of his truck. The officer arrived on scene and made contact with the man. The man told the officer he had come to meet a girl, who the officer observed was in the truck with him. The man told the officer they had been playing Pokémon and had been walking around. The officer noted the man had a sweatshirt in his window blocking the sun. The woman said everything was OK.
April 12
8:10 a.m. Suspicious person. Amber Avenue S. An officer was dispatched for an older man that approached the caller’s truck while he was in it and attempted to open the door. The caller’s girlfriend asked the man if he needed something, and the man stated he was looking for her. The caller and his girlfriend didn’t know the man, and both felt uncomfortable and didn’t want to get out of the truck. While the officer was en route to the scene, the man called the police department stating the suspicious man had just gotten into a taxi and left the area.
April 13
8:29 p.m. Burn. Cypress Circle. An officer was dispatched to a burning complaint. The officer located the residence and met with the homeowner. The owner showed the officer the fire in the backyard, which was mostly extinguished and in an enclosed stone fire ring. The officer explained the concerns from the caller, and the man stated he was burning cardboard and realized the flames were too big, so he put it out. The officer explained that he shouldn’t be burning cardboard or yard waste; firewood was the only permitted matter by city ordinance. The homeowner stated he understood.
April 14
8:49 p.m. Personal assist. Seventh Street N. An officer was on routine patrol when they were flagged over by an adult man. The man told the officer he was out for a run and got a bloody nose and needed assistance. The officer provided the man with gauze until the bleeding stopped.
April 15
1:49 p.m. Assist agency. CR 1. Officers were requested to assist with a lost kayaker in the Sauk River. An officer was en route toward Heim’s Mill and had just gone through the round-a-bout when she saw a wet man running with a lifejacket on. The officer pulled up alongside the man and the man told the officer he assumed she was looking for him. The man told the officer he had tipped his kayak and was walking back toward Heim’s Mill. The man told the officer he was fine and did not need medical attention. The officer offered a ride back and the man declined stating he needed to run it off. Other responding agencies were notified the man had been found and was not injured.
April 16
8:50 p.m. Driving complaint. Benton Drive. An officer was dispatched to a driving complaint of a person driving all over the road and not able to maintain a speed. The caller was following the driver until an officer could make contact. The officer was able to catch up and witnessed an illegal lane change within a round-a-bout. The officer stopped the vehicle and made contact. The officer learned it was an older woman who was not from the area and was lost. The woman was looking for a hotel and the officer was able to point her in the right direction.
April 17
8:45 a.m. Escort. A Sartell officer participated in the Line of Duty Death escort for Pope County Deputy Josh Owen.
