May 23
5:07 p.m. Gun complaint. Connecticut Avenue S. Officers were dispatched for a person with a gun that was allegedly pointed at a business. The officer arrived and pulled into the business. The officer saw a four-wheeler and two juveniles riding it, one with a long gun pointed in the air. The officer sounded the squad sirens and the men drove over to their location. The officer advised of the complaint, and the men denied that being the case. They told the officer they were using a pellet gun to shoot pocket gophers on family property and pointed across the field to his father. The man had his gun safety certificate; the officer spoke to the juvenile’s father, and he said the exact thing the juveniles did.

May 24
1:22 a.m. Dumping. 16th Avenue N. An officer was dispatched to a residence that had ordered a roll-off dumpster while they were moving out. The owner stated the dumpster was dropped off this morning between 6 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. in their driveway. The owner stated within an hour, someone had thrown trash into the dumpster that was on this list of items that were not acceptable. The owner pointed out a vacuum, electric smoker and a child’s electric scooter. While the officer was speaking to the owner, two construction workers next door came and offered to allow the owner to dispose of the items in their dumpster, so she didn’t get charged.

May 25
8:38 a.m. Exposure. CR 120. An officer was requested for an exposure complaint; the complainant was still on the phone and transferred out to the officer. The caller advised the officer she was in the parking lot, eating breakfast when an older man approached her. The man unbuckled his pants, dropped them midway and exposed himself. The man then biked away. The caller didn’t call immediately as she drove around trying to locate the man. The officer also checked the area and was unable to locate anyone matching that description. The woman wanted it documented in case it happened again.

May 26
8:20 a.m. Animal. Leander Avenue. Dispatch aired a caller called in to let them know they saw a black bear cub near this location. A second caller had already reported it to the Sartell Police Department office staff. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the bear. Per the DNR they said to leave it alone, do not approach it and do not leave food sources out such as bird feeders and garbage.

May 27
3:32 p.m. Agency assist. Railway Avenue. A Sartell officer heard Sauk Rapids officers get dispatched to a train derailment near the Benton County Fairgrounds. A Sartell officer responded to assist with the situation. It was determined the cars were filled with rocks and not hazardous materials. The train was blocking several intersections and the officer assisted in redirecting traffic until the train could be detached and clear the intersections.

May 28
6:04 p.m. Animal. Riverside Avenue S. While an officer was working Toward Zero Deaths enforcement, they noticed traffic stopping and getting backed up on Riverside Avenue. The officer found a very large snapping turtle attempting to cross the road at its own turtle pace. The officer stopped traffic to help get the turtle safely across the roadway.

May 29
9:55 p.m. Traffic stop. Benton Drive. An officer was on routine patrol traveling over the bridge. The officer observed a vehicle approaching him and was still accelerating. The officer activated the forward-facing radar and locked the vehicle traveling at 48 mph in a 30-mph zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop and cited the driver for speed.

May 30
12:10 p.m. Theft. 10th Street S. An officer was dispatched to a theft complaint; the caller told the officer Amazon was supposed to deliver two packages, he was at home and only received one of the two packages. The caller found out package number one had also been delivered but he never received it. The caller contacted Amazon and was told to make a police report before they could get a refund. The man told the officer it was a combination leaf blower, duster and sprayer valued at $400. The man also told the officer he couldn’t confirm if the package was stolen or delivered to the wrong home. The man was provided his case number to start a claim with Amazon.

May 31
9:29 a.m. Traffic stop. Riverside Avenue S. An officer was working Towards Zero Deaths while running stationary radar. The officer noticed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed; they locked the vehicle traveling at 50 mph in a 30-mph zone. The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver. The driver was cited for misdemeanor speed.

June 1
2:33 p.m. Civil. Rainbow Avenue. An officer was requested for assistance in dealing with a roommate kicking out another roommate. The officer was informed that person lived in the apartment for six months but was not on the lease. The caller moved out because of personal issues. The caller was upset the other roommate was not willing to give her any of the money back she had already paid toward rent. The officer informed the caller this would be a civil matter.

June 2
11 a.m. Dump. CR 120. An officer was requested at Sauk Regional Park for a dumping complaint. The officer arrived and met Public Works; the officer noted a large amount of junk was left in the grass near the parking lot. The officer observed exercise equipment, bed frames, boxes, coolers, vacuums, rugs and miscellaneous other garbage were all in the pile. It took two city trucks to clean up the items. The officer located a piece of mail in the pile and was able to locate a phone number belonging to the man. The man answered but told the officer he was homeless, and hadn’t been to Sartell in a long time.

June 3
2:36 p.m. Animal. Amber Avenue S. Officers assisted Public Works with a duckling rescue. Seven of the seven baby ducks met their fate with a storm drain. The team was able to remove all seven ducklings from the drain and reunite them with mom and dad duck.

June 4
8:14 p.m. Unwanted. Roberts Road. An officer was called to an apartment for a man pounding on a woman’s door. The caller knew the man, and officers had already dealt with them earlier in the day. The officer found out the man was trying to retrieve his cat. After speaking to the caller, it was found that a plan to exchange property on Monday was already in place. The officer spoke to the man about waiting until Monday and the man agreed to wait.

June 5
2 a.m. Loud party. Roberts Road. Officers were dispatched to people who had broken into an apartment’s pool area and were now throwing a party with loud music. When the officers arrived, they didn’t hear loud music, but found four people in the pool area. An officer was able to confirm one of the four lived in the building. The group was advised of the noise complaint and they agreed to leave the pool area.
