The self taught baker Ginger Gaddi, winner of the 2022 Greatest Baker competition, was recruited, nominated by family or friends or like me discovered on social media. With a name like Ginger she’s naturally a baker. The contest started Nov. 27 this year and ends Feb. 1. Based on the talent and drive to showcase the treats and specialties a baker makes from scratch, votes are gained by sharing tips, recipes and hints to future bakers to acquire the joy of baking for themselves. One free vote per day and the allowance to buy votes for your favorite baker.

The money goes to cancer research family support, by emotionally supporting and benefiting the Be Positive Foundation through the Andrew McDonough B+ Foundation.
Last year I was thrilled to be in the contest and did fairly well. I made it through the top 20 and then the next level, the top 15. Making a medley of yeasted and sweet bread, I described the breads, engaging the judges (the ones who the contestants are able to create fans and win over) via social media.

I was invited to register for this year’s challenge. Having a familiarity with how the contest works and my contributions last year helped me to find a spot this year. What’s different for me this year? I have spent a year working on my writing and hope it gives me an edge.

“I should change my name to Johnny Garlic.”

A $10,000 prize goes to the winner and the winner gets to meet “The Cake Boss” Buddy Valastro and be interviewed for an article in Baking From Scratch magazine.

I am officially entered. I will make from scratch cinnamon rolls and use the sweet bread for two kinds of bread pudding – Tart Cherry Bread pudding and Blueberry Bread pudding. Placed on a small serving tray, both the Smurf blue and the dusty red rose colors of the two fruit puddings will be highlighted by a dollop of tart lemon curd and a sugar-free whipped cream.

What a picture!
