Schindler was born March 30, 1931 on a farm in St. Wendel Township to Henry and Theresia (Reischl) Schindler, the youngest of eight children. In her younger years, Schindler was very involved in parish life at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the choir, worked with teenagers in the religious education program, served as stand chair for the annual St. Joseph Fourth of July festivities and served as secretary for the parish council for many years. She was also distinguished as the first female in the Diocese of St. Cloud to serve as a parish trustee. She also enjoyed giving of her time and talents by volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Schindler was a talented artist enjoying crocheting, needle point, counted cross stitch, latch hook, painting and woodcrafts.
