‘Kids Fighting Hunger’

sets packaging event

“Kids Fighting Hunger” will host a “We Are Thankful” project to package food and promote collection of nonperishable food items on Sunday, Nov. 17 at St. Cloud River’s Edge Convention Center.

Designed to give central Minnesotans the opportunity to serve by providing food to children, adults and families, 600 volunteers are needed to package more than 120,000 oatmeal and rice meals for area food shelves including those in St. Joseph, Catholic Charities, Albany, Big Lake, Buffalo, Cold Spring and many others in central Minnesota.

“There’s a genuine struggle for individuals in our community experiencing food insecurity,” said Cathy Wogen, executive director of Kids Fighting Hunger. “Together, we’ve been able to support area food shelves helping serve our neighbors in need.”

To donate to the food-packing event, one can write a check to Kids Fighting Hunger and mail it to P.O. Box 7550, St. Cloud, MN  56302. Or a check can be dropped off at the convention center along with a non-perishable donation on Nov. 17 while the event is happening.

Food-packaging shifts are each about 75 minutes and begin at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. To volunteer/register for the event, visit getconnected.unitedwayhelps.org/event.
