Another roundabout will be constructed in Sartell – this one at the intersection of Second Street S. and Fourth Avenue S., which is located just southwest of Winners Sports Bar & Grill.
The project, estimated to cost $2 million, will be a partnership between Sartell and Stearns County (Second Street S. is also known as County State Aid Highway 133), thus the city-county partnership.
Recently, the St. Cloud Area Planning Organization announced it would award $1,201,000 in federal funds to construction costs for the roundabout. It will be constructed sometime in 2027.
There are two major reasons for the roundabout project. One reason is the growing concerns about safety at that intersection after many residents expressed worries about the high volume of pedestrians and bicyclists in or along that intersection. Some residents have reported to the city they have seen some frighteningly close-calls between vehicles and pedestrians and/or bicyclists at that intersection.
A second reason is an expected increase in traffic after Niron Magnetics sets up shop on a large lot on Fourth Avenue S., south of the intersection. Niron is a Minneapolis-based manufacturer of rare earth-free magnets.
The St. Cloud Area Planning Organization also announced grants to the City of St. Cloud for a project that includes a road extension of Heatherwood Road to the Opportunity Business Park and completion of the mid-section of the Beaver Islands Trail. Another St. Cloud project, to be funded by the Carbon Reduction program, will be the addition of bike lanes and sidewalks along 22nd Street on the city’s south side.
Those projects, too, have been set for 2027.
