Dear Neighbors,
You may also be shaken and horrified by the recent acts of violence and murders of political leaders here in Minnesota. What can we do?
What values do we share as a Christian nation? I was taught the values and importance of kindness, compassion, empathy, caring for those in need, telling the truth, do not lie, don’t judge others, love your neighbor as yourself and do no harm. Have Christian values changed? The Bible and the words of Jesus haven’t changed. By returning to these Christian values, we can help curb the dramatic increase in violence in our country.
Can we provide support to the vulnerable men in our communities who have been persuaded by the violent, divisive rhetoric and disinformation from some of our leaders and media? I am not against guns. We are a family that has enjoyed hunting for generations. Some of you may have known my brother. He was a kind man and I cared about him. But as I transported him to long-distance medical appointments I learned he had become very angry at many in our community and society. I learned he had more than 50 guns plus bombs and appeared increasingly short-tempered. A good doctor helped me get him into an assisted-living facility. I considered even his fellow parishioners were not safe.
Who among us may be vulnerable to the violence? The list includes community and government officials, corporate executives, medical staff, school children, shoppers, bar-hoppers, workers and neighbors in their homes. Our thoughts and prayers are not working. What can we do to reflect a more kind, compassionate, Christian nation? Please contact your Legislators and Government Officials to establish policies and laws that will keep us safe. Be kind.
Are we truly Christian or Christian in name only?
