Sartell-St. Stephen
School Superintendent
In recent days, our community has faced deep heartbreak with the loss of one of our students. There are no words strong enough to ease the pain of such a loss. As we grieve together, we also see the true character of Sartell-St. Stephen – one defined by compassion, connection and care.
When tragedy strikes, our community responds. We reach out. We listen. We help. In the past week, I have seen people step forward in countless ways. Staff, students, parents and neighbors have shown what it means to come together when it matters most.
Inside our schools, teachers and counselors have created spaces of care and calm. They have listened to students, offered comfort and provided the reassurance that school remains a place of safety and belonging. Our staff has supported one another, leaning on the strength that comes from shared purpose and love for our students.
Beyond our school walls, the response has been just as powerful. Families, local businesses, faith communities and organizations have reached out with messages and simple gestures of kindness. Police officers, firefighters and first responders have served with caring hearts and quiet strength, offering comfort and support in ways that remind us how deeply they care for this community. People have gathered to share presence and prayer. Every act has carried the same message: we are not alone in our grief.
Moments like these remind us schools are more than classrooms. They are part of the heart of our community. When one family hurts, we all feel it. And when we come together, we begin to heal.
Our students have shown incredible strength and empathy. They have supported one another with compassion that reflects the very best of who we are. In quiet conversations, shared hugs and kind words, they have shown caring for others can be one of the most powerful lessons of all.
As superintendent, I see firsthand the importance of relationships that extend far beyond the classroom. They form the foundation of how we respond to hardship with empathy, unity and hope. This is not something that begins only when tragedy strikes. It grows from years of connection, trust and shared values. It reflects a community that cares deeply for every child.
We know grief does not end after one week or one gathering. Healing takes time. That is why our school counselors, social workers and staff will continue to be here for students and families. Together, we will support one another through the days and weeks ahead.
There is comfort in knowing while we cannot erase pain, we can walk beside one another through it. We can listen, care and remind one another that compassion endures even through loss.
I am deeply proud to serve this district and this community. The way Sartell-St. Stephen comes together in times of tragedy reflects who we are at our core – people who lead with heart, lift others up and find hope together.
Thank you to everyone who has reached out, cared and supported one another through this difficult time. Your compassion shows the true spirit of our community. Together, we will continue to heal, remember and move forward with compassion guiding the way.
