Zupfer Anderson resigns from school board

Citing “irreconcilable differences,” Sartell-St. Stephen School Board member Julie Zupfer Anderson has resigned.

In her letter of resignation, Zupfer Anderson stated she was resigning because of “irreconcilable differences between board members and a lack of common vision with regards to the direction of board leadership.”

She also wrote in her letter:

“These differences have proven to be stumbling blocks in the fulfillment of my responsibilities as a board member, and it is time for me to step down.”

At a special school board meeting Monday, March 6, board members agreed to make a decision in the near future as to how to replace Zupfer Anderson.

Zupfer Anderson has been on the board since she was first elected in 2002.

Her resignation was the second upset on the board in a two-week period. On Feb. 21, board chairman Lesa Kramer resigned from her role as chairman, stating she did not have enough time to divide between family duties, her career and the duties of the chairmanship. Kramer, first elected in 2008, will remain as a school board member, however. The board, at its special meeting last Monday, unanimously agreed to install board member Mary McCabe as board chair, to replace Kramer.

In her written statement, Zupfer Anderson said she would remain a strong supporter of the Sartell-St. Stephen School District:

“I appreciate the support of the Sartell-St. Stephen community over the past 10 years and consider myself very fortunate to have worked with the phenomenal administration and staff of our excellent scholo district. I wish Dr. (Joe) Hill and the school board the best of luck in their future endeavors.”

Board member Patrick Jacobson-Schulte had been named as interim chairman of the board immediately after Kramer’s resignation from the position.

In a statement, he wrote, “The Sartell-St. Stephen School District 748 would like to thank Mrs. Zupfer Anderson for her dedication as a school board member spanning nearly a decade.”

The Sartell-St. Stephen School Board has come under fire in recent weeks for dropping the traditional week-long spring break, starting next year. At the March 6 special board meeting, that issue was not discussed.
