Roger A. “Skip” Aaker Jr., 57, of Faribault, Minn., died Aug. 13 at his home following an extended illness. His funeral was held Aug. 18 in the Church of St. Patrick in Shieldsville, Minn. Interment was held at the Maple Lawn Cemetery in Faribault.
Roger Arden Aaker, son of Roger A. and Maureen (Pretty) Aaker, was born on July 30, 1957 in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. His family moved to Sartell, where he attended Sartell High School and graduated with the class of 1976. After high school, he attended St. Paul Technical College and began an 18-year career as a journeyman glasscutter. Aaker first worked for Hoffer’s Glass and later Old Castle Glass, both in Bloomington, Minn. He also worked for Tom’s Pro Glass until he found a position working for Faribault Public Schools, first as a custodian and later taking care of the grounds at all of the school buildings until illness forced him to stop working. On April 26, 1996 Aaker married Wendy Duchene at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Faribault. Skip loved watching their daughter play volleyball and family trips to the Wisconsin Dells. He was an avid fisherman and softball player and also enjoyed golfing.
Survivors include his wife; his daughter Anna Aaker of Faribault; his son Gabriel (Kathryn) Purdie and their daughter Kacidy Purdie of Faribault; his mother, Maureen of Faribault; his brother, David (Lori) Aaker of Prior Lake, Minn. and their daughters, Kristen and special friend, Andrew Tindal and Sara and fiancé, Christopher Dietz; two sisters, Lynn Aaker of Faribault and Deb (Charlie) Moline of Morristown and her son, Nathan Staupe; his father and mother- in-law, Jerry and Kay Duchene of Faribault; his brother-in-law, Pete (Dina) Duchene and family of Orange Park, Fla.; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, a sister in infancy, his godparents Marian and Robert Nelson, and many aunts and uncles.
