The Grands at Mulligans, an events center in Sartell, has permission to shoot off fireworks at some wedding receptions throughout the warmer months.
The Sartell City Council granted the center a permit that will be good from May through October, but the permit requires Mulligans notify people living in that area via letters when a fireworks event will take place. It also requires the center to put a notice in the Sartell Newsleader whenever fireworks are slated.
A spokesman for Mulligans said fireworks events would likely be quite rare as they are a bit too expensive for most wedding parties. So far, two prospective brides have asked Mulligans if they could do fireworks. One bride said she had seen them shot off when she attended a wedding in another state.
There is also a condition in the seasonal permit that Mulligans cannot hold fireworks if the season is dry or if other weather conditions could pose a hazard.
The fireworks sessions would only last from eight to 10 minutes, max, and they would have to be done by 10:30 p.m. Mulligans will also have to pay stand-by fees for the fire department.
The council unanimously approved the request.
