The Act on Alzheimer’s Initiative recently received recognition from the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging with an Aging Innovations Award, the highest honor presented by NAAAA to member agencies. The awards program is sponsored by Critical Signal Technologies your Link to Life. ACT on Alzheimer’s was among the top 16 of 38 local aging programs to receive honors during the NAAAA annual Conference and Trade Show, July 11-15 in Philadelphia, Penn.
The 2015 NAAAA Aging Innovations and Achievement Awards recognizes Area Agencies on Aging and Title VI Native American aging programs that develop and implement cutting-edge approaches to support older adults, people with disabilities and their family caregivers. A part of the criteria for the selection of the honorees was the ease with which other agencies could replicate the program in their communities.
“With the healthcare landscape continuing to change rapidly, our members are investigating new ways to position themselves in the long-term and health care marketplaces, as well as to strengthen long-standing services to meet the needs of America’s rapidly growing older adult population,” said NAAAA’s Chief Executive Officer Sandy Markwood. “Our members work tirelessly, and with little fanfare in their communities, and this program enables us to shine a well-deserved spotlight on their ground-breaking work.”
The award commends the Minnesota Agencies for their partner role in developing the ACT on Alzheimer’s initiative and providing technical assistance and support to 34 communities statewide — helping them access, analyze and work to achieve community goals for becoming dementia friendly

Maschhoff Family Foods, the holding company of the Maschhoffs LLC and GNP Co., recently announced Jason Logsdon, CEO of Maschhoff Family Foods, will be leaving the company to pursue his passion for investing. Logsdon, who started as chief financial officer at the Maschhoffs in 2003 and became CEO of Maschhoff Family Foods in 2012, will join the Maschhoff Family Foods Board and continue to counsel the organization in strategic business areas.
Effective Sept. 8, Tim Schellpeper, most recently president/chief operating officer of Kansas City-based fresh meat and packaged foods company Smithfield-Farmland, will become CEO — assuming leadership of Maschhoff Family Foods. The company also officially named Dr. Bradley Wolter as president of the Maschhoffs — a role he has held on an interim basis since April 2015.
“I truly appreciate the opportunity I’ve had to lead such a tremendous organization,” Logsdon said. “I’m very excited to remain involved in the business while pursuing a long-time personal interest of mine. I will greatly miss the day-to-day leadership of the team, and remain very committed to the success of the organization and the Maschhoff family. I have absolute confidence Tim will do an outstanding job.”
Ken Maschhoff, chairman of the Board, agrees, saying he couldn’t be more pleased with the appointment of Schellpeper as CEO.
“I’ve known Tim for a long time, and believe he is uniquely positioned to lead the organization due to his farming background, more than 30 years of protein-industry experience, outstanding character, vast leadership skills and excellent cultural fit,” Maschhoff said. “Tim is a people person with a strong work ethic and a very active, visible management style. He is known for challenging and developing the people around him.”
According to Maschhoff, Schellpeper is highly passionate about the organization’s mission as well as those of its separate business units. There are no changes expected in the strategies or plans of the organization or its hog and chicken businesses.
- – The Maschhoffs will continue to dedicate its energies to maintaining and enhancing its position as the largest family-owned hog production network in North America.
- – GNP Co. will continue to build on its reputation as the Midwest’s leading provider of premium quality chicken products.
“I am looking forward to being part of such a strong, growing organization and guiding its evolution to a leading provider of healthy proteins,” Schellpeper said. “I am truly excited about helping Maschhoff Family Foods drive forward its strategy and vision while preserving the farm-family values upon which it is built.”
This announcement is being made in advance of Schellpeper officially becoming CEO on Sept. 8 to ensure a smooth and seamless changeover. During the next 30-plus days, Logsdon will prepare to transition out of the CEO role, working closely with Maschhoff, Schellpeper and the Executive Committee to ensure business continuity and the transfer of critical business knowledge.
“I’d like to recognize Jason for the excellent leadership he has provided the company since becoming CEO, guiding us through significant growth and the diversification of our portfolio through the acquisition of GNP Co.,” Maschhoff said. “I’m looking forward to working with him in his new capacity, and grateful for his continued involvement in the business and commitment to our long-term success.”
