The St. Cloud Area School District is proposing a building bond referendum on the Nov. 3 ballot. A public forum was held Oct. 5 at Whitney Senior Center, and another will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12 at St. Cloud City Hall, 400 Second St. S.
According to information on the school district’s website (which can be accessed through a link on the front page of the Newsleaders’ website, under School District Links), the proposed $167-million referendum would be used for the following:
- Acquisition of land and construction of a new Tech High School on 33rd Street S. in St. Cloud, totaling $113.8 million.
- Renovation of Apollo High School and site upgrades, totaling $46.5 million.
- Upgrades for safe entrances and enhanced security at all schools in the district, totaling $2.5 million.
- Upgrades to technology infrastructure and devices for anytime/anywhere access to learning, totaling $4.2 million.
The referendum would affect tax rates, raising the annual tax on a $150,000 home by an average of $218.18.
