Sauk Rapids Police Officer Alex Wegner is seen here having his badge pinned on by his own father in an emotional moment at the Dec. 14 city council meeting. Wegner’s father, Richard, is a retired sergeant in the Minnesota State Patrol, so it was especially fitting that he pin his son’s badge on. The younger Wegner began working for the department on Oct. 19 of this year; this was a ceremonial swearing in. He is originally from South St. Paul.
