After its Friday triumph on home turf, the Sartell Sabres football team retained its winning streak so far this season with a decisive 28-0 win over Sauk Rapids-Rice Storm.
Running back Erik McAfee was the man of the hour after he scored four touchdowns and carried the ball for a total of 210 yards. After three games, including two Central Lakes Conference games (Apollo, Sauk Rapids-Rice), the Sartell Sabres have an unblemished record of three wins, no losses. They beat Apollo Aug. 31 by 6-0 and Big Lake Sept. 7 by 33-6.
Friday’s game was the first at-home game played on the new grass of the refurbished Sabre Field at Sartell Middle School.
The Sabres scored 14 points in the first and third quaters of the game.
Fans cheered loudly on their feet as McAfee, fast as a streak of lightning, scored runs of 50 yards, 60 yards, 13 yards and 16 yards.
On Friday night, Sept. 21, starting at 7 p.m., the Sabres will play an away non-conference game at Grand Rapids, the Sabres vs. the Grand Rapids Thunderhawks.
The Sabres is one of nine teams in the Central Lakes Conference League, the others being Alexandria, St. Cloud Apollo, Brainerd, Fergus Falls, Rocori, Sauk Rapids-Rice, St. Cloud Tech and Willmar.
