The election hasn’t even happened yet, and already fellow Newsleader columnist Ron Scarbro sounds like a bitter loser.

It will come as no surprise to readers that Scarbro and I are political opposites. In his recent column, he stated if Obama is re-elected, it won’t be the “end of the world” but will certainly bring about “many ends.”

In other words, the sky is falling, the sky is falling.

Then, he launches into a litany of horrors parroted so long by all the Obama-haters. The following are Scarbro’s five fantastical reasons why he thinks Democrats will have to hide their heads in shame if Obama is re-elected:

1. Scarbro states Obama is carrying on a war against success. Is that why the stock market is doing fine lately? Is that why the rich have been getting even richer in the past four years? Is that why his administration saved the banks and the big fortunes of so many rich people dependent upon the finance industry?

2. Scarbro, of course, blasts the Affordable Health Care Act, trotting out the tired old scare tactic that seniors will not be able to get medication because they are too old or too sick. Read “death panel.” If I recall correctly, Scarbro once wrote a very good column about how this nation should reform its health-care system by basing it on the “excellent” one administered by the Veterans Administration. That system is virtually a form of a one-payer system, a kissing cousin of that evil European socialism so despised by Republicans. Scarbro praises the VA care system, but – woe unto us! – ObamaCare (which will be administered through private insurers) is going to be a socialist-government-boondoggle nightmare, according to the scare-tacticians. Scarbro reminds me of Romney, who slams ObamaCare, virtually the same system Romney himself put in place in Massachusetts, and which, last I heard, is working just fine.

3. Scarbro mentions how “jobs won’t be happening.” Under Obama, more than five million private-sector jobs were created. Yes, it was slow, but fairly steady. What does one expect when there was a virtual collapse of the entire economic system caused largely by the speculative excesses and de-regulations during previous administrations?

4. He uses the image of “Nero fiddling while Rome burns” to characterize Obama and his Middle-East policies. Except instead of “fiddling,” this wicked pagan emperor (Obama) will be blithely golfing, Scarbro predicts. How absurd to blame volatile violence in the Middle East on Obama, as if Romney will be this diplomatic genius with a magic wand!

5. Of course, no anti-Obama rant is complete without blaming him for China’s unfair trade, for the rise in gas prices, for fears about gun control and the folly of relying upon an economic recovery from the “bottom up.” Scarbro, obviously, thinks the “trickle-down” recovery plan is best in which Republicans keep giving the rich more tax breaks so they will then eagerly provide millions of jobs. What a joke. Never worked, never will.

Hey, Ron, why don’t you just go all the way? Why not blame Obama for the drought last summer? Why not blame him for all calamaties natural and human and for anything else you don’t like or don’t understand?

To close his column, Scarbro, like some cranky old prophet, lets loose this bolt of lightning: “Democrats, and to a large measure the national media, pay attention. You will be held accountable for the mess that awaits this country . . . There will be no place to hide.” I presume Scarbro means “hide” from the fire and brimstone that will rain down from the falling sky on the evil-doers.

I’d like to remind Scarbro the election isn’t over yet. By all accounts, Romney won the first debate. It’s possible, after all, that he will win, and then Scarbro will be spared from Obama Hell, and he will be able to enjoy the Romney Republican Paradise.
