That despicable, vicious King of Liars, Alex Jones, is in the news again – this time because a judge ordered him to liquidate his assets and use the money to pay the parents who sued him years ago.
Jones is the very worst kind of conspiracy theorist. Right before Christmas 2012, 20 children and six teachers were ripped to shreds by a killer wielding a military-style assault weapon. That hideous bloodbath happened in Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
After that heart-breaking butchery, Jones began spouting cruel, outrageous lies on his “InfoWars” media platform, based in Texas. He also has two websites on which he wallows in crazy conspiracy theories hatched by extremist right-wing nuts. Jones ranted over and over for years that the Sandy Hook massacre did not happen. It was staged, he insisted, with parents as “actors” so as to rile up the public to pressure the government to confiscate all Americans’ weapons.
The families of those dear deceased children then began to endure online abuse, personal confrontations and death threats from people who were convinced by Jones’ sick and twisted diatribes.
Six years ago, many of the family members of those murdered children sued Jones for defamation. They were eventually awarded nearly $1.4 billion in damages. Shortly thereafter, Jones (go figure!) declared bankruptcy. That seems to be every crook’s reaction: file for bankruptcy and/or keep appealing the judicial decisions, buying for time.
The latest order for Jones to liquidate assets includes a provision allowing him to keep his “Infowars” show. Lawyers for the families who sued him requested Jones’ overall company, “Free Speech Systems,” be shut down, all of its assets sold, with money going to the families as punitive damages.
Meantime, via “InfoWars,” Jones has been crying and ranting about how the whole commotion is a government conspiracy to shut down his business and to shut Jones up for good. And (go figure!) his eager gullible listeners, angry about the “witch hunt” against their oracular “hero,” have been buying in record numbers the products Jones hawks on his show – diet supplements, bullet-proof vests and “brain pills” that obviously don’t work for him or his listeners.
Among other lies Jones has spewed are these: the U.S. government concealed or falsified information about the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the Oklahoma City bombing and the 1969 moon landing and (go figure!) the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump.
Even though Facebook, Apple, YouTube and Spotify yanked “InfoWars” content some years ago because of policy violations, hate speech and more, Jones continues to pop up again elsewhere like a toxic, ineradicable weed. And when Jones is criticized for his outrageous conspiracy theories, he counters with (go figure!) “I’m a performance artist.”
It is to be fervently hoped some judge someday will figure out a way to keep Jones from spewing his dangerous lies.
