Crime Stoppers offers rewards up to $1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for a crime.

Jan. 12
8:11 p.m. Missing person. First Avenue NE. The complainant stated her 18-year-old son is missing. Mother said son was was last seen on the morning of Jan. 9. It is unknown why son had left. Mother stated son has mental health issues, but is not diagnosed with anything. Son is described as an 18-year-old, black man, approximately 5-foot-8-inches and 140 pounds. It is unknown what he was wearing when he left. The officer had dispatch enter son into NCIC as missing. They also forwarded the information to Waite Park police, as he goes to school at ALC. Follow up on Feb. 7 with the family: Mother stated son was home. The officer spoke with son and he stated he was fine and did not need anything from them. Mother said son has been home two-and-a-half weeks, but did not call in. The officer had dispatch remove man as missing.

Jan. 13
6:45 p.m. Crash. Minnesota Street E./Third Avenue SE. Officer was dispatched to a crash. It was determined there were no injuries and it was not blocking traffic. The officer arrived on scene and spoke to parties involved, gathered vehicle, insurance, driver and passenger information and took photographs. No citations were issued. One vehicle was towed due to damage. Both drivers were emailed a driver exchange form.

Jan. 14
8:33 a.m. Medical. 315th Street. Officer was dispatched to a medical for a man with flu-like symptoms that got dizzy and could not get out of bed. Arrived on scene after rescue. No patient care or contact by the officer. Mayo arrived on scene and transported him to the hospital.

Jan. 17
12:24 a.m. Intoxicated man. College Avenue N. Units were dispatched to a business assist for an intoxicated male at the La Playette. The caller reported the man was being weird toward women and staff asked him to leave and he didn’t. As officers arrived on scene the man was walking away. The bar did not want any charges pressed or for the man to be trespassed. One of the officers transported the man to a hotel in St. Cloud.

Jan. 18
11:49 a.m. Harassment. College Avenue S. Officer was dispatched to a harassment complaint. Officer spoke with the complainant who stated his old neighbor has been harassing him over Snapchat. Complainant stated he only knows the woman’s first name. Complainant stated he has a prescription for marijuana and he ran out. He stated woman gave him $40 worth of marijuana. Complainant stated she is trying to get him to pay for it. Complainant stated woman has been treating him and his girlfriend. Complainant stated he wants this documented in the case the woman comes to their home and assaults them or damages property. He stated their were screenshots of their conversation. He sent the officer the screenshots. The officer read through the messages and woman did say she would beat up complainant’s girlfriend, but no direct threat. It should also be noted complainant has been just as argumentative as woman suspect. Screenshots show them both arguing back and forth. No harassment has been observed at this time.

Jan. 19
11:17 a.m. Alarm. 19th Avenue NE. Officers were dispatched to an alarm. Officers arrived and found vehicles outside, and people inside. Spoke to woman individual who said she is a realtor with Edina Realty showing the business to potential buyers. This aligns with this business as one of the officers knows it has been for sale for a while. No sign of forced entry and listing realtor did call showing realtor advising of the alarm. No crime.

Jan. 20
8:10 p.m. Unwanted person. College Avenue S. Officers were dispatched to an unwanted person complaint. The complainant stated her stepbrother came to the apartment and started a verbal argument. The brother stays there from time to time. The family wanted the brother to leave as he was causing problems. Prior to our arrival, the brother left. Officers checked the area and did not locate him or the car he was said to be driving. The complainant stated her brother has made references to having a gun on social media but has never seen a gun nor were there any threats made.

Jan. 21
1:18 p.m. Unwanted person. Elm Street E. St. Joseph Police Department received a trespass complaint from Coborn’s loss prevention. An officer learned the male suspect has been trespassed from all Coborn’s-owned properties on Sept. 24, 2024. The report indicated he had entered the Coborn’s located at 1500 Elm St. E. in St. Joseph. Loss prevention provided a copy of the trespass notice and video of the incident. The video shows suspect parked his vehicle in the parking lot in front of the store. It should be noted he was in the same vehicle from an incident at the Cash Wise located in Waite Park. The video camera shows him walking through the front entrance of the store at 8:37 a.m. He then purchased items at cash register three, then left the store. It should be noted when reviewing the video his driver’s license photo is a match. The officer contacted suspect via phone to speak with him on the matter. He stated he didn’t think the location was owned by corporate in which he said he believed he could enter. The officer informed him the trespass notice he received states all the stores he is trespassed from, and informed him he will be receiving a citation in the mail for trespassing. Officer also told him if he has any concerns due to a misunderstanding he will have to bring it up to the courts.

Jan. 22
8:47 a.m. Damaged vehicle. Ash Street W./First Avenue NW. An officer observed damage to the front fender of a vehicle. Made contact with the driver who said he just had a wheel bearing replaced and as he was driving the wheel fell off damaging his car. No damage to any other vehicle. Driver did not hit anything. Took photos and ID’d the man. Advised if he would need report for anything he can call St. Joseph police. Appeared lug nuts snapped off causing wheel to fall off.

Jan. 23
4:37 p.m. Theft. Seventh Avenue SE. Officer was dispatched to a theft. The victim reported someone had stolen their blue plastic garbage container. Complainant said they did not have any suspect information. Officer responded to the residence and complainant signed a stolen property form. The estimated value of the container was $100.

Jan. 24
5:07 p.m. Custody dispute. Jasmine Lane. Officer was dispatched to a custody dispute. The father of the child said he went to the residence to pick up the child, and said he believed he was supposed to take custody at 5 p.m. The officer spoke with the mother through the doorbell and she stated the father was supposed to pick up the child tomorrow morning. Officer told both parties incident would be documented.

Jan. 25
Noon. Hazard. Third Avenue NW. Officer was dispatched to Memorial Park. A caller reported a white SUV was parked in an area of the park which was a hazard for kids sledding. The caller was concerned a child could run into it and get hurt. Officer responded and located the vehicle which belonged to a city of St. Joseph staff member who was running an event for kids in the park. Officer sat in the area for several minutes and didn’t see a child get close to the vehicle while sledding. Called the complainant and spoke to him about the issue. Told the caller officer would make contact with the staff member and inform them of the complaint. The staff member was informed.

Jan. 26
1:28 a.m. Assault. Minnesota Street W. Officer was dispatched to an assault not in progress that occurred at Sal’s. The victim was currently at his dorm on St. John’s campus. Officer met the victim and could see his face was swollen and he was bleeding from abrasions on his face close to his left eye. Victim said he was jumped and robbed outside in front of Sal’s. Victim and a witness with him said the only descriptions they could give was two white men, that had brown flowy hair. They said the two were Johnny’s. Victim said he did not want to press any charges. Mayo arrived but did not transport. Victim received a ride from a friend to the hospital.

Jan. 27
7:44 a.m. Animal complaint. College Avenue S. Passerby saw a deer injured in the ditch. Arrived in the area and found deer. Walked up to it and deer was clearly hit by something and could not get up. Deer was dispatched.

Jan. 28
1:47 p.m. Disorderly conduct. Elm Street W./First Avenue NW. Stood by for officer safety while deputy conducted an investigation into a disorderly conduct in St. Joseph. Interaction went smooth and no other assistance needed by the officer.

Jan. 31
10:31 a.m. Medical. CR 133. Officers were dispatched to a medical for a man who was unresponsive on the floor and cold to the touch. One of the officers confirmed deceased. Death investigation completed. Midwest medical contacted. They released the deceased to the funeral home. Daniel Funeral Home was requested and contacted to pick up the deceased. Daniel Funeral Home arrived on scene and took over care.
