10 healthy ways to consume social media
Did you know that social media addiction compares to cocaine or alcohol addiction? By now, we know that endless scrolling has been shown to be bad for mental health.
With negatives comes positives, however. Sense of community, connection and support are all positives. However, the negatives do outweigh the positives often with its addictive qualities, unrealistic beauty standards, comparison and FOMO.
Greg Lozano, provider partner at Grow Therapy, offers healthier ways to consume social media:
- Notice how social media makes you feel.
- Keep a journal of your screen time and how you feel.
- Understand Active versus Passive social media use.
- Have an intention before you log on – a specific goal that will benefit you rather than mindless scrolling.
- Limit the amount of time you spend on social media.
- Know when to step away.
- Designate Phone-Free time.
- Try to avoid the comparison trap.
- Unfollow accounts that make you feel bad.
- Do a Tech Tidy Up.
