Mobile welding unit will be at Market Monday Aug. 10

Bob Craven of Northside Welding will have a mobile welding unit at Market Monday, from 3-6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10. Joining Northside Welding will be Joe Schulte and Heidi Jeub of the Sartell Mill Art Project. They will host a welding expo, including demonstrations and a workshop as promised for those who sponsored the Sartell Mill Art Project through its Indiegogo campaign. Market Monday is located at Riverside Plaza at 101 7th St. N.

 

Registration meeting held for new students at high school

A meeting will be held from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12 for all grade 9-12 students new to the Sauk Rapids-Rice school district who have not registered yet at the high school, located at 1835 Osauka Road NE, door #1. Students will learn about school policies and activities, tour the school and register for classes. A parent(s) must attend the meeting. If you have questions, please call 320-253-4700.

 

 

 

Regional Transportation Plan asks for ideas from residents

The Public Health Departments of Stearns, Benton, Sherburne and Wright counties are asking residents to complete a survey about what would make it easier to walk and bike, whether to work, to other destinations or simply for recreation. Comments and recommendations from the public will help identify key destinations and priority routes, and will help guide future improvements for walking and biking. Ah Nuts! Food allergies

Stearns History Museum offers history, business at breakfast

Brian Schoenborn, a real estate developer and partner at Stinson Leonard Street, will link Fifth Avenue’s past to a possible future during Breakfast Club at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12 at Stearns History Museum, 235 S. 33rd Ave. in St. Cloud. Refreshments are served.

Sign up for IRS summertime tax tips

The IRS offers its Summertime Tax Tip series which includes useful information in both English and Spanish. They often include links to helpful IRS.gov references, YouTube videos and podcasts. Taxpayers can sign up for daily IRS Tax Tips automatically via email through a free service on irs.gov.

School bus transportation info update request

Update your child’s school bus information if you have changed your pick up/drop off address from the previous year or have moved. You can contact Joe Wiser at 656-3724 for assistance in updating or verifying this information.

 

Apply now for youth waterfowl hunts

Youth ages 12-15 can apply for the chance to hunt waterfowl under the guidance of experienced mentors on Minnesota Youth Waterfowl Day, Saturday, Sept. 12. The application deadline is Monday, Aug. 10. More information and an application form can be found at www.mndnr.gov/discover.

 

 

Apply now for youth deer hunts
Minnesota youth have from now until Friday, Aug. 14, to apply for one of 18 special deer hunts in October and November.

DNR accepting apps for archery hunts

Hunters can apply now for the 2015 regular archery deer hunts at Camp Ripley near Little Falls. The application deadline is Friday, Aug. 14. Hunters may apply by contacting one of 1,500 electronic licensing agents located throughout Minnesota;
calling 888-665-4236 or visiting the DNR’s online licensing site, dnr.state.mn.us/licenses.

 

 

United Way Volunteer Opportunities

Flower gardener

Flower Gardener – To keep the grounds looking their best, volunteers are needed to maintain the beautiful courtyard gardens as well as potted plants around Whitney Senior Center.  This is a flexible, weekly volunteer position during flower season.  Responsibilities include planting annuals, weeding and other basic gardening tasks. Garden beds are located on the southwest side of the building and in the East courtyard and six pots are located by the entrances. Donate extra produce to the food shelf

Donate your extra produce from your garden to your local food shelf. Favorites include carrots, zucchini, beans, beets, kohlrabi, corn, potatoes, cabbage, peppers, onions and asparagus. Any produce that has a longer shelf life is accepted. This is an easy way to help our food shelves during the summer and fall. Teach computer skills to refugees, immigrants

Hands Across the World is a nonprofit organization that provides classroom instruction in ESL and other skills to refugee and immigrant newcomers to St. Cloud. They need tutors to help students learn to use computers for work and fun. Working one-on-one with students, tutors will assist them in setting up email accounts, using Microsoft Word and Excel, using templates to write letters and navigating the internet. This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in meeting and working with people from other cultures. Contact Brianda Cediel, Hands Across the World executive director, at 320-260-1072.

Card, cribbage and game players wanted

Play games at Country Manor Campus. Sit with an individual resident or a group of residents and play the game of choice. Checkers, cribbage, UNO, Kings in the Corner, bridge and 500 just to name a few. The residents love to visit and play games with our wonderful volunteers. This is a great way to build relationships and get to know residents during some friendly competition. Contact Caitlin Tierney, Country Manor Campus volunteer coordinator, at 320-253-1920.

Donate your furniture

You can help by donating gently used items to help out a low-income family in need. Items accepted include couches, love seats, lamps, recliners, rockers, kitchen tables and chairs, end tables, night stands, dressers and complete bed sets (no king). Furniture with rips, stains, rust, tears or mold cannot be accepted. Tax receipts and pick up is available. Contact the Community Furniture Program at 3200656-9004 or cfp@cmnrp.org.
