Bikes, bikes, bikers galore!
Many children, family members and friends had lots of recreational fun at St. Joseph’s Klinefelter Park May 11, and during the two-hour event they were all learning bicycle-safety tips.
It was the fourth annual free Bike Safety Event sponsored by the St. Joseph Women of Today. The free activity took place from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. in the park.
The first 100 children to show up were all given free bike helmets.
Children up to age 17 were eligible to win one of 10 bicycles, including two small bikes for little tykes.
Unlike last year’s Bike Safety Event, when it rained, this year’s event was blessed with wonderful spring weather.
During the event, children rode bikes around the pond in Klinefelter Park, stopping along the way at a number of “stations” where they learned about bicycle safety, received goodies and chose flowers to give to their mothers.

The weather was perfect May 11 at Klinefelter Park for the fourth annual Bike Safety Event and for an upcoming birthday for Adeline Salzer, 11 of St Joseph. She and her friends in this photo are all avid bike riders. From left to right are Haylee Meyer, 10, of Richmond; birthday girl Adeline Salzer, 11 of St Joseph, Brielle Bertram, 11, of Richmond; and Adeline’s mother, Sarah Salzer.

Nick Ojaniemi brought his two children (Tommie, 2; and Valor, 3) to the St. Joseph Women of Today Bicycle Safety Event in Klinefelter Park. Valor is holding a free bouquet for her mother. The children were able to select from a number of lovely flowers provided by State Farm Insurance of St. Joseph.

Free bicycles, seen here in Klinefelter Park, were awarded to the winners of the annual Bike Safety event hosted by St. Joseph Women of Today. Children who have completed the outdoor tour of stations are eligible to win a new bicycle. That tour of stations includes stops in the park dealing with bike-safety issues, a snack, doing a craft and free bouquets for the kids’ mothers.
