Not long after a public hearing at which many speakers urged the Sartell-St. Stephen School District to delay approving the superintendent’s contract, the board did just the opposite. On a vote of 4-2, it approved Joseph Hill’s contract for three more years.
(For more on the public hearing, see related story.)
Those voting yes were Gary Asfeld, Chris Gross, Dan Riordan, Gary L. Schnellert,
Those voting no were Lesa Kramer and Mary McCabe.
Earlier at the meeting, McCabe had requested to put a motion on the agenda not to renew Hill’s contract. That was voted down 4-2. At first the issue of renewing the contract was supposed to be just a discussion item, but on a 4-2 vote the board moved it from “discussion” to “action.”
Hill became Sartell-St. Stephen superintendent in 2010 after the former superintendent, Dale Gasser, retired. Hill’s salary, frozen by the board, will remain the same at $154,415 per year, not counting benefits.
