The Senate has received scrutiny and criticism for a number of reasons, ranging from how it is constituted to rules allowing the minority party—or even one Senator—to stymie the rule of the majority. The Electoral College and the presidential primary system have their share of critics, too, because our system has the potential to elect a president without a majority of the vote. State legislatures are governed by those who are in the majority, which can lead to partisan agendas and a lopsided ability to remain in power. Considering historical and other factors, would a different voting system be more democratic and representative of the people? What are some possible solutions and roadblocks to change? |
