When driving down First Avenue in St. Joseph, it’s hard to miss the castle-shaped structure standing at 118 First St. NW.
Construction of the anticipated Cone Castle restaurant is underway, and the restaurant will soon be unveiled. The business will offer everything from pizza and salads to ice cream – all in a cone.
Jason Neuerburg, one of the business partners for Cone Castle, said work will continue between now and April with plans for the business to be open by May 1.
Aaron Holthaus, also a business partner, was helping unload materials last week but took a few minutes to praise city officials for their support of the project.
“The city has been great,” Holthaus said. “We’re excited.”
As work began, there were delays in placing the stucco–or coating material for the outside of the building–as it is pricey to put it in place in winter conditions because it can be costly to enclose the structure to preserve it. Despite this setback, plans are on schedule.
Interest continues to grow in the arrival of the business, and the hiring process is in its initial stages, Neuerburg said. Applications are available at conecastle.com.
When Cone Castle debuts, there is expected to be about 20 employees with an opportunity to expand that number, Neuerburg said.
Interviews started this week, according to the business’s Facebook page.
