Cyril Jude Schaefer, 91, of Sartell, died July 4.
His funeral was July 10, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Sartell. The Rev. Thomas Olson officiated and burial was in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery.
Schaefer was born in Chicago on Feb. 11, 1934 to Cyril and Una (Westbrook) Schaefer. He attended Loyola Academy, Wright Jr. College and DePaul University. He married Nancy (Letarte) in 1960 at Providence Catholic Church in Chicago and moved to Sartell in 1973 where they raised eight children.
Schaefer worked for the Minnesota Correctional Facility and as an estimator for SEH. He was a semi-pro football player, enjoyed metal detecting, president and secretary of the Great River Regional Coin Club for more than 30 years, a Cubs fan, an expert in frugality, an avid hunter, a known prankster, considered himself the “best driver in the world,” and has had many drag races with unsuspecting drivers.
Survivors include the following: children: Suzanne (Omri Shochatovitz)of Minneapolis, Cy Jr. (Bonnie) of Anaconda, Mont., Phil (Carla) of Waite Park, Cynthia of Minneapolis, Annmarie Moilanen (Mike) of Rice, Mary Nelson (John) of Plainfield, Ill., Virginia Daniels (Mike) of Sauk Rapids, Sharon Mentzer (Kevin) of Sartell; 25 grandchildren and seven (two on the way) great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and a brother, Dr. David (Sue) Schaefer, Rochester, Mich.
He was preceded in death by his wife; siblings: Anne, Anthony, Brice and Martin (Judy) Schaefer.
Arrangements were entrusted to Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in Sauk Rapids.
