Henry Smith, 5, and his grandpa Harry Smith, both of St. Joseph, make a bluebird house together March 17 at the 31st annual St. Joseph Rod and Gun Club birdhouse-building event at the American Legion in St. Joseph. Club members assisted families and children in assembling a variety of 250 birdhouses for wrens and bluebirds, as well as bats and butterflies, which they could take home to enjoy.

Ella Phillipp, 11, makes a blue bird house with St. Joseph Rod and Gun Club member Ken Schindele March 17 at the American Legion in St. Joseph. Both are from St. Joseph. The birdhouses were pre-cut by club members Ron Rennie, John Heinen, John Theisen and Al Kalla. All are retired carpenters.
