Climate change, does it really matter if it’s real or not? We should be taking care of our environment regardless of the validity of climate change. Why is this even a topic or an issue? Littering is bad, pick up after yourself. Exhaust from your vehicle is bad, turn your engine off when waiting in that school car line. Pollution from factories and plants? Of course we should find cleaner solutions, why wouldn’t we?

People are not getting upset because some don’t believe in climate change, well maybe some are. But people are mostly getting upset because taking care of the environment shouldn’t be an issue to begin with. Yes, it might mean a little extra work for all of us to keep our communities clean and it might be difficult to find better solutions to promote clean air, but is that really too much to ask?

No one has time anymore to think of such mundane things like throwing their trash away, or not being wasteful in the first place. The idea that someone else will clean it up has become a normal way of thinking for some. What we do on this planet matters, whether you believe it or not doesn’t make it any less true. Being conscious of your own waste and carbon footprint is not an infringement on your rights, it’s your responsibility as a human being.

If some day we come to find out that the climate changes with or without our help, would you be disappointed you weren’t more wasteful? Would you regret being more environmentally conscious, or regret not littering, or walking to work when you could or finding better ways to keep our air clean? That doesn’t seem like something anyone would look back on and be ashamed of.

Even if you don’t believe in climate change, even if you are not worried about the rate that our planet is heating up, so what? The bottom line is our air is not as clean as it once was, and our living environment is hurting from all the waste and pollution. These are facts, and those facts alone should encourage each of us individually to do something about it. Living a fast-paced life, being “too busy” is no excuse for not caring about your own waste and turning a blind eye when you see others being careless too.

Fighting against finding cleaner alternatives is simply illogical. If there’s a better way to do something, why wouldn’t we try it? It shouldn’t matter whether you believe that our planet is heating up or not, we know pollution is bad for us and our planet for so many reasons, and that alone should be reason enough to do your part.
