Fasten seatbelts! Bumpy election replay looms large

In the classic 1950 movie “All About Eve,” actress Bette Davis, after a kind of vicious puff of her cigarette, snarls at her fellow party-goers: “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy night!” That line, that “warning,” became instantly famous.

Nowadays, it could go like this: “Fasten your seatbelts. It’s going to be a bumpy election aftermath. Another bumpy election aftermath!”

The “bumpy” aftermath is the all-too-real possibility of another violent insurrection attempt at the nation’s Capitol like the one when loser Donald Trump commanded his gullible supporters to walk down to the Capitol and “fight like hell.” And they did just that. They tore down barricades, viciously assaulted police officers, set up a scaffold and smashed their way into the Capitol. Some carried Confederate flags, and like a pack of prowling hyenas they howled “Hang Mike Pence!”

Many of those ringleaders/perpetrators (except Trump) are in prison, hoping Trump is elected this year so that he (their God-given hero) can, as he promised, pardon them. The former president insists they are not criminals; they are persecuted “hostages” whose only “crime” was trying to save this country from a “stolen” election.

After nearly four years, Trump is still spewing that nonsense, that rot. And, not to forget, he was spewing it even months before the 2020 election. Fearing he might lose, which he did, he predicted the election would be “stolen” from him because of bogus ballots, dead voters, mail-in ballots and votes from illegal immigrants. What he was doing was prepping his supporters to act out their rage in case Biden won (and of course he did), a fact that enraged the would-be insurrectionists. The Biden bashers eagerly did Trump’s bidding.

Most people seem to have forgotten those claims of fraud made by Trump and others months before that last election. Some did not know about it, and still more did not even care – those disconnected people who dismiss any Trump nastiness with these words: “Oh well, they all do that!” No, in fact, they don’t all do that.

Now, he and his enablers are doing the same thing – prepping Trumpites to rise up again in violent rage if he loses, because if he loses again, it will certainly be because of another rigged election. Or so many of his cultists are trained to believe, like obedient attack dogs.

Here are just a few of the sinister predictive warnings made recently by Trump sycophants:

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon: “The only way they (Democrats) defeat Trump (in 2024) is if they steal it.”

Laura Ingraham of FOX news: “If they (Democrats) can, they’re going to game the system or, yeah, maybe even cheat.”

Greg Gutfield, also of FOX news: “Even the Dems behind the scenes better hope he (Biden) doesn’t win because no one’s going to believe it.”

All of these ultra-right-wing hopeful “prophesies” are déjà vu. Trump and his fawning puppets launched a tsunami of disinformation/misinformation (lies) that the 2020 election would be stolen.

The Fox News network should have learned its lesson not to promote a barrage of conspiracy theories. Its incessant false claims of the “fake” 2020 election led Fox/Trump propagandists to claim voting machines were rigged. Dominion Voting Systems sued Fox for defamation and won a settlement of nearly $788 million. But never mind that. Fox and some other right-wing media outlets still insist the last election was stolen, therefore the next one will be too, even if Biden would win by a significant margin. What these creeps are saying is we don’t care about voters or elections. We will take power by hook or crook.

Trump so admires “strong” leaders Vladimir Putin and Kim Jung Un. He himself longs to be a authoritarian (dictator).

Learn the facts, folks. Be careful what you wish for, what you vote for, because you and all the rest of us just might get it. Again! Fasten your seatbelts.
