A grass fire destroyed an ice-fishing house and a camper May 11 on property in Collegeville Township. No one was injured during the fire and response.

On May 11, 2025, at approximately 10:18 a.m., the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a fire at 14562 260th Street in Collegeville Township. The caller advised there was a grass fire that had spread to a nearby ice-fishing house catching it on fire. Cold Spring Fire, Rockville Fire, Cold Spring Police, the Stearns County Sheriff’s Office and Mayo Ambulance were dispatched to the incident location.

Upon arrival responders found property owners attempting to control the fire. The fire had spread to a nearby camper and was against a large shop. Firefighters were able to control the fire before it spread to the shop, but the ice fishing house and camper were considered a total loss. The fire is believed to have started from discarded ash that had come from a wood boiler on the property. High winds and dry conditions are believed to have contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. No one was injured during the fire and response.
