Darrick and Danielle Saboe of St. Joseph are very proud of their business called Floor to Ceiling, but they do sometimes wish it wasn’t located quite so “far off the beaten track.”
Many people in the St. Joseph area – and beyond – do not know the store exists, and that is because they seldom if ever drive by it.
The store, which specializes in virtually every kind of flooring and window treatments and some countertops, is located at 8075 Sterling Drive in north St. Joseph. Where, one might ask, is that?
Well, here’s how to get there. From Hwy. 75, go north on the road leading past Bee Line Service Center. Go around the big curve. When the road straightens out, take the first left, go across the railroad track, then take the first right you come to, and you will be on a frontage road for businesses in what’s known as the “East Industrial Loop” where the tall concrete plant is located. Floor to Ceiling is the first business on the right – a metal tan-and-burgundy building.
Two years ago, Danielle and Darrick Saboe bought the business from its previous owner, who had owned it for almost 13 years. Darrick knew the owner well because he had worked for Floor to Ceiling for seven years doing cabinetry and trim work, specializing in kitchens.
The Saboes hired a friend, Jeremy Girgen, also of St. Joseph, to be the company’s professional business consultant. Girgen grew up in Royalton.
Darrick was raised in Brooten, Danielle in Sauk Rapids.
Floor to Ceiling offers a staggering array of flooring: carpeting, tile, stone, wood, vinyl laminate, vinyl plank. It also features window treatments that include shades, fabric, venetian blinds, woven woods, aluminum-and-wood and roller shades, to name just some.
The business has two full-time residential sales people who do flooring and window treatments. Those employees can visit homes of customers to discuss projects, and a designer can help people create their own ideas of personalized in-home space.
The store also has a warehouse manager.
Floor to Ceiling is open from 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. It is closed on Sundays.

“Most people who stop in are really surprised at all the beautiful things in the showroom,” Darrick said. “They also appreciate the no-pressure, knowledgeable sales people who are very welcoming to the customers.”
Before moving to St. Joseph four years ago, the Saboes lived in Sartell. Danielle worked as a nurse at HealthPartners in St. Cloud and then worked for Lakewood Dermatology in Sartell.
The Saboes have two daughters, ages 11 and 9.
