The members of the Sartell High School Homecoming Committee are inviting local businesses and organizations to feature their own floats in the Sept. 23 Homecoming Parade.

The theme of this year’s parade will be “Movies,” and if possible, each float should have a visual style that reflects a particular favorite movie. If any business is interested, contact committee member Bennett Prose at 25prosben@isd748.org.

Sartell High School junior Nathan Ramberg, a member of the Homecoming Committee and Student Council treasurer, told the Sartell-St. Stephen Newsleader what will happen on Homecoming night.

A tailgate party will start at 5 p.m. on the grounds of Riverview Intermediate School next to the football field. Food donated from local businesses will be cooked and prepared and served for $5 a plate. Proceeds will be given to this year’s Homecoming Cause, which is “Kids Fighting Hunger.”

Also at 5 p.m., the parade will start lining up at St. Francis Xavier Church and School grounds. The parade will start moving at 5:30 p.m. on a route that will end at about 6:30 p.m. at Riverview Intermediate School. At that time, the tailgate party will still be going on.

The Homecoming Royalty couple will be crowned, and the football game (Sartell Sabres vs. Willmar Cardinals) will start at 7 p.m. at Riverview.

There are seven couples nominated for Homecoming King and Queen. They will ride golf carts in the parade to the coronation site.

Some of the parade’s floats will also feature royalty couples from grades 9-11.

“The parade will be lots of fun,” Ramberg said. “There’ll be music, candy tossed and lots of colorful floats. Even the swim team and the soccer team will have their own floats. It’s going to be a really exciting night.”
