No parking along July 4th parade route
There will be no parking allowed along Minnesota Street from CR 2 to Third Avenue/entrance to the College of St. Benedict starting at 7 a.m. Monday, July 4, until the parade concludes. In the past, spectators could park along this stretch of road, but this year will be an exception as the area is needed for parade staging.

County Road 1 Reconstruction and Roundabout Work
Reconstruction and roundabout work begins this week on County Road 1 at Heritage Drive. The first Stage of construction involves closing Heritage Drive at County Road 1. This will take place on Wednesday morning, June 29. Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes. County Road 1 will remain open at this time. Find additional information and maps. Minnesota Reading and Math Corps looking for literacy tutors
St. Cloud has an immediate need for 15 literacy tutors and seven math tutors for the 2016-2017 school year, according to Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps. Both full and part time tutors are being recruited to begin a year of paid service beginning this fall. By serving with Reading Corps or Math Corps, individuals will join a network of more than 1,400 Corps members helping over 35,000 students statewide. Minnesota Reading Corps and Minnesota Math Corps are statewide initiatives to help every Minnesota student become a successful reader by the end of third grade, and proficient in math by the end of eighth grade.
St. Cloud schools with open tutor positions are:
- Lincoln Elementary
- Madison Elementary
- North Junior High
- Oak Hill Community School
- South Junior High
- Stride Academy Charter School
- Talahi Community School
- Westwood Elementary
- Southside Boys and Girls Club
Tutors are also needed at Kennedy Community School in St. Joseph and Pine Meadow Elementary in Sartell.
Minnesota Reading Corps and Math Corps tutors commit to 11 months of service, during which they earn a living allowance of $544 (full-time) every two weeks and an education award of up to $5,775 to help pay for further education or repay qualified student loans. Tutors 55 or older can gift the education award to their child, grandchild, or foster child. Full-time tutors can also receive health insurance and child care assistance. Literacy and math tutors are fully trained by Reading Corps and Math Corps. Tutor candidates come from a variety of backgrounds, ranging from high school graduates to retirees. Mid-career individuals considering a professional change are also excellent candidates. Parents find serving as a tutor is a great way to support their child’s school. Volunteer for the July 4th fireworks
St. Cloud Fireworks Committee is looking for help with the 2016 Fourth of July Fireworks! Volunteers are needed to take tickets and serve food in the Contributor area. Shifts are 4-8 and 8- Midnight. Catholic Charities Foster Grandparent Program is looking for local adults, age 55+ to become part of this exciting intergenerational program Volunteers are needed to provide extra support and attention to children in schools in District 742, Sartell, St. Joseph and Cold Spring.
