K of C breakfast for a Seminarian set June 4 at Heritage Hall
The Knights of Columbus of St. Joseph will hold its last breakfast of the season from 8:30 a.m.-noon Sunday, June 4 at the Heritage Hall in the Church of St. Joseph, 12 W. Minnesota St., St. Joseph. This breakfast is designated for the support of a seminarian. Please come and help us support a seminarian by enjoying an all-you-care-to-eat delicious homemade breakfast of Pep’s pork sausage, St. Joseph Meat Market sausage, pancakes, hash browns, fruit, scrambled eggs, caramel and cinnamon rolls, and beverages. Sunday Mass will be at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m.
MN History Center launches records search
Minnesota History Center recently launched the new Minnesota People Records Search with an easy-to-use search function that draws results from birth, death, state census and Veterans’ Grave Registration records and the newly digitized WWI Gold Star Roll records. Day of Action celebrates its 50th anniversary
Make a difference in our community by taking action from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday, June 15 at Lake George. There will be opportunities for families, groups, individuals and people of all ages. Projects include: paint a canvas for a cause, fleece tie blankets, assemble information kits, kids’ capes, build furniture, storm-drain stenciling, make cards and assist with 50th celebration event logistics. Food Drive: Groups (employers, service clubs, youth groups and others) are also encouraged to host a food drive to support children and youth in the summer when food-shelf usage increases due to the fact families are not able to rely on the hot meals children receive in school. Suggested items include: easy mac, oatmeal, peanut butter and jelly, canned soup, cereal and more. Please deliver items to Lake George from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. during Day of Action on Thursday, June 15.
Save the date: Day of Caring is scheduled for Sept. 21. Day of Caring brings people together to volunteer on community projects throughout Central Minnesota. Registration will begin Aug. 9.

Sub teacher training set June 7, 8
Resource Training & Solutions in St. Cloud will hold a two-day program on June 7 and 8 to prepare individuals to apply to become limited, short-call substitute teachers. People who want to teach but don’t have the full credentials will have an opportunity to become certified as short-call substitute teachers under the Minnesota Limited, Short-Call Substitute program. A 4-year bachelor’s degree is required to qualify.
Under Minnesota law, limited, short-call substitute teachers licenses are granted only if teachers who hold regular teaching licenses are not available or if a district is experiencing a hardship in securing a sufficient number of regularly licensed teachers to meet the district’s need for limited, short-call substitute teachers. The district superintendent may request a limited, short-call substitute license be granted to an individual who holds a baccalaureate degree from a college or university that is accredited by the regional association for the accreditation of colleges and secondary schools. Licensure is good for two years and must be renewed bi-annually.
Training will cover topics such as the substitute teacher’s role in the classroom and district, basics of classroom management and instruction, basics of child development and communication skills.

Habitat for Humanity seeks lawn mowing volunteers
Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity needs volunteers to mow lawns on properties that Habitat owns (but there is not a homeowner on that property yet).vLocations include one in east St. Cloud and one in Sauk Rapids close to Sartell that needs a volunteer to “adopt” the property and mow it for the season. Family Day escorts sought June 17 at VA Medical Center
Volunteer on Saturday, June 17, from 12:30-4 p.m. for Family Day at the VA Medical Center.

Catholic Charities Emergency Services Food and Clothing Program
Catholic Charities Emergency Services is looking for volunteers to help with a variety of programs. Volunteers are needed to help in the food shelf, clothing program and mobile food shelf. A variety of shifts are available to meet your schedule. Catholic Charities is a non-profit organization that advances the charitable and social mission of the Diocese of St. Cloud. Foster Grandparents seeks mentors
The Foster Grandparent Program needs more mentors for youth in our community. Currently there are openings at local elementary schools, Journey Home daycare (working with infants and toddlers), Kidstops and Head Start. Foster Grandparent volunteers might help students with a reading assignment, work with a small group on a craft or help kids cook an evening meal. Adults age 55 and over can receive an hourly tax-free stipend ($2.65/hour) for volunteering 15 hours per week (or more if they wish) helping children with activities, reinforcing learning, helping with art projects and more. This is a great opportunity if you have time to spare, love to be with children and could use some extra non-taxable income. Friendly visitor or help with cleaning
Rural Stearns Faith In Action serves communities by making connections between those who need some assistance and those who are able to provide the services. Our volunteers assist individuals 60 and older with a wide variety of activities from transportation to homemaking They are seeking volunteers for transportation, home making, respite and chores. Currently, friendly visitors are needed in Freeport and Melrose. Volunteers to help with home making and cleaning are needed in Richmond and Avon. Celebration of Fatherhood
The Celebration of Fatherhood is in need of volunteers to assist and guide families in doing various craft projects. Volunteers should enjoy working with children birth to age 8 and their families. Craft projects will include coloring, gluing, building, stamping and playing with the materials. The craft projects will be outside (dress appropriately) unless it rains, in which case we will be inside. Each craft project will need at least two people to assist families, so bring a friend to help.
