8:38 a.m. Burning complaint. Eighth Street N. Officers were dispatched to a burning complaint. The homeowner stated their kids had a fire the night before and when he put leaves and pine needles in the fire pit they ignited unexpectedly. Officers advised the homeowner about the city ordinance and stated leaves and pine needles can’t be burned.
May 28
7:54 a.m. Crash. CR 78/Second Street S. Officers were on patrol when they witnessed a two-vehicle crash in the area. The driver of the first vehicle stated they were merging to go east on Second Street, when the vehicle in front of them abruptly stopped, causing a rear-end crash. No one was injured.
May 31
9:51 p.m. Citizen contact. Third Avenue N. While on patrol, officers noticed roughly 12 juveniles in the track area at the school. As officers were talking with them, one of the juveniles yelled a slur toward the officer as they were walking back to the squad. When the officer turned around the juvenile took off running. The officer told the boy to stop, which they did. The officer had a conversation with all parties about being on school grounds at night, yelling slurs and running from police.
June 3
5:30 p.m. Suspicious Incident. Fifth Street N. The complainant called about a younger man on a segway riding around in the area and going up to doors. Officers arrived and found the individual, who stated they were doing door-to-door sales for a pest company. The solicitor stated they did not have a permit and were told they needed to get one before doing any more work in the area. This is a good reminder for residents to ask to see a solicitor’s permit or to call law enforcement so officers can make sure they have the appropriate paperwork.
June 5
3:19 p.m. Juvenile problem. Third Avenue N. Officers were flagged down by a resident who stated kids were driving a dirt bike on the track. Upon pulling up, officers located the group driving on the softball fields. They were asked to stay off school property and left.
June 8
3:02 p.m. Traffic stop. Benton/Third Street NE. Officers were on routine patrol when they saw a vehicle traveling faster than the posted speed limit. The officer initiated the traffic stop and the driver stated they were unaware of the speed-zone change. The driver was cited for speeding and left.
